I can't play on the Wii because American Idol is on...

...and my wife is watching that silly, silly show. We only have one television in the apartment. Even if we had the disposable income for another television, we don't have room for it.

Does anyone else suffer because of American Idol? If so, post a reply here and maybe we can organize some sort of anti-Idol party on Tuesday nights.

Of course, we have to wrap up a few minutes early so I can get ready to watch House.

lol @ thom

Anyway, you shouldn't be playing the inferior wii anyway! And I like American Idol, buddy... it's funny when people make fools of themselves

We usually watch Law and Order, however, tonight the Westminster Best In Show is on USA so, no go there. I feel bad for those dogs the way I feel for 3 year old beauty pageant contestants. My way of anti-Idol partying is voting in REAL elections. As a musical purist, the show just eats at me. "Yes, let's just pay whoever can sing millions upon millions of dollars to butcher classics"

Edit: I move to start a petition moving House back to 8 P.M so I can watch The Unit at 9. (EST of course)

One word: Tivo.
Four arguments against TiVO:
  1. We only have rabbit ears (antennae). We don't have even basic cable television.
  2. TiVOs cost money. My wife is still in school, I'm working on a helpdesk, and I'm repaying student loans. $250 for a Wii made sense. Anything above $2 for a TiVO doesn't.
  3. There's maybe three good shows on all network channels put together (House, Heroes, and...okay, so there are only two).
  4. BitTorrent.

I'll add two more words: The Unit :D

My wife actually likes it more than I do, and I'll watch anything having to do with the military.

(But only if they move American Idol to alternating Monday mornings at 3 a.m.)

Better yet: cancel the thing already. How can there be a new American Idol every year. Just goes to show that it doesn't take much to make money as a television producer.

I love my Tivo! Definitely the best purchase that I've ever made. Fortunately I got it while they still allowed for the lifetime membership to avoid the monthly subscription. My wife and I both agreed though that if our Tivo ever broke, we would definitely want to replace it.

If you have an extra computer, you could look into FreeVO. The Linux alternative to TiVO.

More and more networks are also starting to put their shows online. A lot of ABC's current shows can be viewed from their website.

That doesn't help you with the shows that you mentioned, but it's still nice to know.

I highly recommend checking out Daybreak. Season 1 up to this point can be viewed on ABC.com. It's just to bad that it doesn't work with the Wii browser. It would be cool to watch the shows on the TV instead of from the computer. At least YouTube works from the Wii!

House is the only original character on TV right now, and Hugh Laurie does a tremendous job with him. Although, if you ask my wife, Extreme Home Makeover is another show worth watching. I only watch it when there is a Christian family on the show, not because I like it any better or less or think they are more deserving-- it's just amusing to see Ty Pennington squirm at the mention of Jesus.

I'm fond of Digging for the Truth and Engineering an Empire on the History Channel. I gave up my phone line fund (for DSL) to get the cable channels required for History.

I've got quite a few favorite programs.

The Unit (like you other guys)
NCIS
Monk
24 (best show in teh w0rld)
The Office
Prison Break
Lost

But I have TiVo, so I can watch all these in 2/3 the time it takes you to on regular TV :-P

If cable companies provided the option to select individual channels, I'd pick up the History Channel, Discovery Channel, the Military Channel, and the Sci-Fi Channel. Oh, and I'd want VH1 for their "Top 40" specials. For some reason, those things hypnotize me.

But as things stand, I couldn't justify paying for extended cable just to get four channels--especially when I only watch a few hours of television in a week.

Then again I have (1) a Wii, and (2) a Playstation 2, and, of course, (3) a computer with a broadband connection. I get my entertainment fix in other forms.

Agreed.

It's wonderful to see a flawed character in the lead role in a show filled with flawed characters. Aside from Arthurian legend, almost all classic literature and mythology is based largely on flawed characters. (Granted, even King Arthur made a huge mistake in ignoring Merlin's advice and marrying Guinevere.)

What gets me about Time Warner (my cable provider) is they keep switching channels to digital only. Not more than 3 days after I had my premium cable service added, National Geographic was added to digital line up. I can't wait to move and have the box again because I am going through severe Military Channel withdrawals. Oh well, at least I still have Dogfights every Friday night on History. History is just one of those channels I cannot do without. Of course, it's a double-edged sword in that my wife is an MTV addict, and she always vetoes my History viewing unless she is playing a game.

bittorrent hands down.... gotta love commercial free TV shows ;) /me hates commercials.....
