Heroes of the Storm

Bowser/Eskunu and I have played together in Heroes of the Storm a few times now, and I am really enjoying it. So far, I enjoy it much more than other MOBA type games. It is only in Alpha, so I know there will not be many, but I was wondering who, if any, have access.

I have access but don't enjoy it. It suffers from the same issues in most MOBAs that sap the enjoyment out if it.

Pray elaborate, m'lord? So far, I feel it does to MOBAs what Hearthstone has done to TCGs, stripped down the genre to its core elements and made them fast and accessible while still making them true to the genre and keeping depth of play.

To be fair, the clickclickclick element is still going to make it a hard buy--speaking figuratively since it's gonna be free--when it goes gold, but I've enjoyed the alpha more than I've ever enjoyed LoL/Dota.

But SMITE, for now, seems to be the MOBA that keeps my heart. It's everything I love about the genre without the things I don't (clickclickclick, infinitely long matches).

Do looooooove the way levels matter so much in HotS, though. And, I mean, so much character thanks to using characters I already know and love from other series. :D

I didn't like the most current addition of relics, as it requires a certain amount of playing in order to be on even ground with someone who plays a lot. I would like them to remove it, or change it to not need to play so much in order to effectively play more than one role. I personally think it is a much better design in other areas though. It does require team work to win, which I do think could cause more head aches when joining random groups, but due to the mechanics of the maps there becomes many viable strategies to win. In fact, a group that has trouble winning group battles can still win if they are better at completing objectives. I would, also, be interested to hear what issues it suffers from.

First game- 1 afker led to falling behind in levels and we lost brutally.
Second game- troll teammate collected all the objective items and refused to turn them in. Lost brutally.
Third game- 1 afker led to a 2nd quitter after 30 mins. Lost brutally.

Close to 3 hours of my gaming life gone with zero funs had, due to other players being idiots, completely out if my control. This element is present in all MOBA and this one is no different. I want to play games for fun and this genre provides it so infrequently it's not worth my time.

Wow, I am actually really surprised. I have seen that in all other MOBAs all the time, and I agree it takes all the fun out of it; however, I have played quite a bit lately and I have not had even one game like that.

I have played maybe 20 games of hots and at like 7 have has one of these elements. It's so draining to rely on pugs. If I could guarantee every game was full of friends I might keep playing but even 1 spot for a pug is not worth it. IMHO.

In my experience, MOBAs are similar to Left 4 Dead 2 in that if you're not playing with people you know, you might as well not play at all. The difference is that you can drop from a game of L4D2 at any given moment and someone else can jump right in to take your place. In a MOBA, you're stuck.

I prefer SMITE over LoL for the same reasons Kendrik cited: SMITE isn't carpal tunnel syndrome waiting to happen (I deal with wrist pain if I play a MOBA or RTS for more than 30-45 minutes) and rounds, in my limited experience, tend to be shorter. WASD controls with third-person controls that recall Heretic II: Good. Physical pain 15 minutes into a game that I'm not enjoying anyway: Bad.

That being said, I trust Blizzard to improve on the MOBA formula somehow. And even if they don't, I'll likely end up playing HotS for the same reason I played LoL: My friends in ToJ play it. :)

I looked into this game a while back but only remembered after looking again. Problem is I have no warm memories of the games it's based on. Of them I've only played the original Starcraft and Brood War and, brace yourself Tek, was indifferent to it, sorry Tek. I also rarely like games based on movies, preferring original IPs, being a game based on other games it falls somewhat near that category.

You sound like such a kill joy lol

:p I try to be truthful but polite in my statements the result is it can come off that way sometimes. Even when I do like something I still put forth the negatives desiring to give a clear view of what something is not the emotional reflex reaction "I lubs it!" like many do. Note I didn't dislike Starcraft it just goes in my "I can understand why people like it but it's not for me" category.

Anyway I'm always looking out for what your guys are playing but I'm really selective about what I actually play. Heroes of the Storm doesn't wet my interest but I don't know of anything immoral about it either (though admittedly I didn't research it so interested parties don't quote me). As such I can wholeheartedly wish you success :). Battle on for Christ Bowser, BATTLE ON!

I doubt there's anything immoral, but HOTS suffers from the same character design issues as every other MOBA: All the women appear to have been designed by 12-year old boys who've spent most of their early adolescence watching porn.

Seriously, female character designs in MOBA are really, really embarrassing--not only as a gamer, or as a father of a young girl, but as a human being with a brain.

EDIT: And I'm mostly thinking of LoL with that statement.
