Help - Dunes of Despair - Bonus only

Legacy of Elijah [LoE] - Proud Grandfather
Any suggestions on completing the bonus solo - with heros and henchies. I've tried to follow the advice on several forums - most of them involve a team of real people. Any ideas appreciated.

The bonus is fairly easy to complete with just heroes. I've done it a few times. The trick is getting a good spawn.

With Heroes I've found that the easiest way is to make them all necros (primary or secondary) and put Necrotic Traversal on their bars. Bring a longbow with you as well. Once you've reached the alter area be sure to park Ghostly someplace so that he doesn't activate the timer.

Next run up to the southern cliff face and be sure to disable all your heroes' AOE, MM or healing skills. If you're lucky there will be a jade scarab spawn on the other side of the cliff. If you aren't lucky and you can't pull the boss group with your bow then you'll need to resign and try again.

Once the enemy is dead use Necrotic to jump the cliff. Lure more scarabs over and one by one activate Necrotic on your heroes and drag them across. You'll just have to abandon the 2 henchies.

Now you can storm the boss area and complete the bonus. Good Luck.

I've seen that in most of the walkthroughs and forums. I'm a monk - I was hoping there was another way. I could hook up with a team but then I'd be left behind to bond with the Ghost. I want to go in and smite in the battles with the generals.

all u need is 2 necro skills for it to work or even just necrotic traversal and then a vamperic bow. transfer to the dead body, then throw ur vamperic bow and wait for ur heros to die and then bring them over with rebirth, and smite the rest of the way

There you go - that is what I was looking for - thanks.

One further question - are you saying that I equip each of my heros with a vampiric bow and once I am in, have them hold the bow until they die? Obviously, I'm not too familiar with ranger stuff.

Yes, make sure your hero's are within range to use rebirth, give them the vampiric bow until they die then rebirth them to your location. It works faster if you have more than one vampiric weapon so that you don't have to wait 3 times for them to die slowly.

Thanks - I appreciate the advice. Now all I have to do is find a vampiric weapon to give the heros.

I didn't use a vampiric weapon. I placed them off to the side outside the fortress, removed their armor, and let the scarabs (or whatever bugs they were) kill them. By the way, once I finished rebirthing them, my henchies walked up out of nowhere. I have no idea how they made it across. Must be a glitch, but I had a full party (minus pets) of heroes and henchies to go after the bosses.

That is interesting - I haven't run into any scarabs until I crossed the drawbridge into the area of the first general. But I'll poke around and see if I can find some bugs. Thanks.

Somebody modified the wiki and took out the instructions. If you look in the history tab, it's back in the December version. Here it is:
Alternate Approach 3 Method

If the party does not have means to suicide:

* Leave the Ghostly Hero at point B on the map
* Make your way to the south gate and lure in the first General/Jade Scarab with a Longbow or an aggro and kill it from afar (note: this is the hardest part because they're not always within agro range. Sometimes it takes a few tries)
* Use Necrotic Traversal to cross the cliff (I had Taikora go first)
* Run your party back down the north bridge where you left the Ghostly Hero
* Turn right and run along the path marked red on the map to where a small cliff is jetting out above the sand
o The Monk/Necromancer or Necromancer/Monk can walk along the path marked dark yellow to meet up with the group
* The group should have found at least one Jade Scarab and should lure it towards the cliff
* Make the group take off their armor and let the Jade Scarab kill off the team
* The Monk/Necromancer or Necromancer/Monk can now easily Rebirth everyone in the party up onto the cliff
* Continue back south down the yellow path to encounter the last two Generals

I set the flags randomly until I could agro a scarab for each of my remaining heroes where the red and yellow lines meet.

I did this bonus after I ascended, so I was able to change my secondary to Necro. I also used Taikora (if you have NF), equiped her with rebirth and set her secondary as Necro with Necrotic Transversal. I kept the henchies flagged somewhere out of range and once I canceled the flag, they magically appeared. That's discussed in the current wiki.

If you don't have heroes, I'd be glad to help.

Thanks - that is a great help. I think I can do this. My monk is a Necro secondary. I do have Tahlkora - I usually use her as protector when I'm smiting. I like to have Jora along as well. I'll try this later tonight.

Also, Aleron, I noticed in your "Get to Know..." post that you were looking for more storage. A trick my son showed me - you can make a PvP character to be a storage person. You can create one, give them bags and put him/her in the guild hall. Then transfer items through storage to the character. He has one for all his extra weapons, another for runes and so on. He doesn't play PvP - just uses the character for storage. That was a big help to me and my storage problems.

I lived in Aurora for nearly five years - back in the 80's. Still a Bronco fan.

Awesome!

btw, I converted my PvP guy into a mule. I may have to buy more slots if I need more storage, but I'm good for now.

I have one mule and I'm about to create a second.

Now I only have three more bonuses to pick up in Prophecies and I will have completed it with my Monk. And two of them are in the dessert. I don't know why I skipped them when I went through.

I took my son through to get the bonus - it took two tries to get a scarab or group close enough to kill and traverse.

We had that weird thing happen where the heros and henchies magically came through a raised draw bridge to reach us. Then we were able to go through as well - we went into the fortresses guarded but the enchanted bows. It was like Indiana Jones stepping out onto the chasm in search for the holy Grail.

Thanks for your help in getting that bonus. Only two more bonuses and Prophecies will be complete.
