I called up my ISP because the service was so slow, and they determined my network speed is 11.8/216 Kbps. HUH? :P

They asked me if my lower-numbered cable channels are fuzzy. I said yes, and they noted that it may be a problem with my actual cable line. Fun fun. So, they're coming on Thursday to hopefully clear up this big mess.

If there were any other cable internet providers in my city, we'd be switching in a heartbeat. Unfortunately, the only other high-speed we have around here is DSL, which I know we don't want to deal with.
 
DSL can actually be very nice, Tom. I have a download rate of about 200kpbs, although my upload is only about 40 (does that sound right?). I only pay $15 dollars a month for it, which is cheapest plan. I could easily upgrade to a much faster connection. Anyway, you might look into DSL, if you're thinking about switching. I only recommend it because you stated that you were considering changing companies.
 
yes we all hate isp's after i got ride of sbc we moved to comcast and iv had probles to the node keeps going out and i get horable speeds at night
 
My friends who have cable get the same problems, one of them had to have the house rewired. I'm glad to have dsl although I'd like to have the speeds they get. I've been lucky with dsl over the years with very few outages. I get around 2500 down/400 up and pay $27 a month.
 
I guess it's all relative to your ISP. There's bad DSL and there's bad cable. Of course, if the wiring in your house is old, you might be up a creek.
 
My ISP is out of here, and the issue has been resolved. The big problem was simply old wiring between the road and our house. So he ran a new cable in to our house, and they'll be burying it (free of charge, of course) soon.
