FOW Clear Run

Back by popular demand.....and the fact that LION's Vanquishing vanished so we have a void on Saturday nights.

If we have enough interested folks I'd like to lead a FOW Clear this Saturday starting at 8:30pm EST.

I'm not too picky. I'll accept any profession. Consets are NOT required. I've cleared several times with a balanced group and no cons so it's possible.

Now, don't get the wrong idea. This isn't a run. Anyone is welcome, but you must contribute to the team. With that in mind I do have some joining requirements:

1. You must have Temple of Ages. If you need a run, contact me.

2. You must be Level 20, ascended and have all your attribute points.

3. Please try to run one of the builds listed below. If you absolutely can't, then contact me and we'll figure out something. I'm willing to help you cap an elite or suggest alternates that may work on one of the chars.

4. Teamspeak. I strongly prefer that you have teamspeak. If you don't, you can still go but you'll probably feel left out of most of the communication. You don't need a mic. Just being able to listen will help a lot.

5. No leaving. This is a 2-3 hour run. If you come then plan on staying 3 hours. Please do not join the team if you know you only have an hour or so left on the computer. Yes, I know that unexpected things come up and sometimes you have to leave, but I don't want anyone saying that they didn't think this would take more than a half hour and they gotta go.

So, what do you need? I'd like to take 2 healers (don't have to be monks) and at least 2 Elementalists. The rest is open:

Warriors: I prefer not to bring tanks. They tend to slow down the runs. You can bring Ursan or a nice damage dealer. Pretty much any basic warrior build. Don't bring monk heals. Don't overaggro. And don't expect to be able to ball up all the enemies on you like a tank. I'll be playing an Elementalist with Savannah Heat so it doesn't work.

Rangers: Barrage is great or you can bring a strong interrupter build. I only ask that you don't bring a pet.

Elementalists: I love eles. Rain down fire from Heaven and burn 'em up. I like Savannah Heat. As an ele though you have a lot of options. Savannah Heat, Searing Flames, Mind Blast all work well or you could become a water snare ele. If enough of the Ele's prefer Searing Flames, I'll switch to that. Multiple SF eles are great.

Mesmers: I don't know a lot about mesmers. You can be a fast casting nuker or a general chaos interrupter. If you want to bring a mesmer and you know your profession well we'll find a place for you.

Necromancers: A Necro is always welcome. I've found that MMs don't work as well in FOW as some other builds. A battery necro for the monks is nice or an SS necro. If we're short a monk then a Necro/Rit healer is great.

Monks: We won't get far without monks. I'd like 1 healing monk and 1 prot monk. A bonder is fine as long as you don't slow down the group re-bonding after each mob. If enough folks come as Ursan however, i'd strongly recommend against bonds.

Assassins: Lots of possibilities here for a competent assassin. (Note the word "Competent"!) You could go with a Critical barrage build and be a ranger. You could play the typical dash in - kill - dash out ninja or if you like you could bring the new Perma Shadowform build. If you are skilled with shadowform and can solo a few of the areas then you'll save the team alot of time on the clear.

Ritualists: Always nice to have a rit healer along. They are great substitutes for monks. I'd avoid a spirit spammer build since I tend to move fast thru the areas and the spirits will be left behind. Anything else is fine.

Dervish: Again, I dislike melee characters. I'd rather not take a dervish. If that's all you have though then please join us. We'll take ya. (We'll just kick the wammo in your spot )

Paragon: LOL, i know almost nothing about paragons. Bring one and show me what you can do.

So that's it. Who's up for it? I plan to start as close to 8:30 as possible. If we don't have a full group we'll fill in with heroes. If we have more than 8 then we'll take a balanced group and I'll run a 2nd trip (probably not the same night) for anyone else that is left behind.

Oh one last question: Hard mode or Normal mode? Vote on your preference and majority rules. Soo, who's up for it??

Sweet! I should be back on campus by then so I'll try to get on. Of course I can/have gone ele, but it might be interesting to go as my Para or something else for a change. He had a pretty sweet buffing build but I haven't played him in a while so I don't know if anything on the build got the nerf. If he's still good to go I'll bring him along. Or my Ranger. Or even Monk if necessary. Bah, I'll just try to show up with something. :p

Sigh, I'm sorry guys. I gotta cancel. HsC already has an event planned for the evening that I wasn't aware of. They plan to clear the Underworld at 8pm....so I'll probably be hooking up with that. If you'd planned to come to fow then do UW with HsC instead. It's just as much fun.

despite UW being one of the first things I'd ever done with a guild/alliance group I've still never cleared it(! I've still got some screens of a couple of the runs...)
Maybe this time. :D

I would like to plan on it, but I don't know what HsC has planned if anything. I'll probably hold off until Tuesday or Wednesday. That way we can see what Anet's weekend event will be and give HsC time to post their plans. The UW clear didn't go so well last night and they may attempt it again. If they do I plan on joining them.

I'll update this thread later in the week once I know more. I could perhaps run it on Friday night, but I know that interferes with HA. FOW takes about 3 hours with a novice team so Friday or Saturday is the only practical night I can run it. Oh yeah, that reminds me, I need to add a new requirement to my original post...no leaving.

I had a great time with the run, group pve is pretty much the only time I even use my monk anymore... I'd be up for UW(I've still never cleared it ) or FoW.

And I am glad to say that I think my monk skills (and armor |337ness) have improved since Way back When

That's not a bad looking bar. I remember using something similar at the time. And I also remember doing pretty well during that screen shot.

Ok, I had originally posted a response on this thread about Saturday FoW and general alliance event ideas - along a health update on Shrodinger's cat, the formula for tranaparent aluminum, the answer to the grandfather paradox, the reason hot dogs come in packs ten while buns come in packs of eight, and design documents for a working flux capacitor.

Unfortunately, it seems the CGA server admins got a hold of that last bit, and here we are...back in time. Sorry everyone...I'll take full responsibility for this one! I think to be on the safe side, I'll just riposte (get it?) the alliance stuff, and leave the rest for great minds to ponder through the ages.

"Just a general note on the weekly alliance event stuff - aside from the obvious need to organize better (and much earlier in the week), we're trying to put together some general rules of engagement. Some of the stuff I'm thinking is along the lines of...

* Please RSVP on the forums if possible
* Please show up a few minutes before 8 - that way people can start organizing then instead of after we're supposed to be leaving
* Make sure you have the area/level/etc (like you said above)
* "Trickle effect" - I think the biggest thing that slows down ad-hoc organization is people trickling in. "Ok, we have 6 people, we can add these two heroes and...oh wait, there's another person! New person, what are you running? Ok, let's all change what we're doing and cap some elites to go along with...oh wait, three more people are..."

I think an idea might to be to make a cut-off for "team 1" consisting of the people who show up early, or at least show up on time and are already ready to go. I would think we will typically have more than one team anyway, so this way we won't hold up those that are timely, especially those who live on the east coast.

All that said - are we talking 8pm EST or 8:30 EST? Or do we want to plan on having one team leave at 8 (probably showing up at 7:45) and another @ 8:30? Please let me know what you think.

PS: If this is not a run...why does it have "run" in the title? I was wanting to afk the whole thing...false advertisement!

Ok, everyone in the alliance is invited...except Ryan. :p :D

LOL, Ryan I thought you had posted in this thread earlier, but when I looked I couldn't find your posts or my replies to them. Not sure what happened.
