Ms is gimped vs. Dw fury for raid dps. (unless gear is very un=) If rhys wants the best raid dps he can get with his warrior and still be a viable tank: DW fury. And in his case, he already has the gear/stats to pull both off. It's not hard to get pre-kara. Unfortunately I don't see a ton of fury gear in kara.
But yeah, if he wants a pure dps class a warrior is not it. Roll a rogue or other toon.
Warriors are great pvp dps classes (especially as arms), but for pve it's really only fury. To excel as a fury dps warrior you have to watch your threat like a hawk and be very careful to not break CC/get aggro on alternate mobs with whirlwind.
I don't mean to say this in a way that hurts anyone's feelings, but imo any dps class/spec that doesn't have an aggro dump is not a true pve dps class in this game. Without an aggro dump you simply can't do as much dps as other classes. Also warriors fight up close which means they can pull aggro with 110% of the tank's threat... ranged dps can go up to 130% w/o pulling aggro.
What I mean by this is that the tank's threat determines how much dps you can do without getting aggro. DPS classes today rely on threat reduction in order to effectively go beyond the 110-130% of the tank's generated threat for that fight. This is especially true for boss fights. For example on my warlock on a boss fight I can shed 50% of my aggro mid fight and then go all out for the 2nd half of the fight knowing that I won't pull aggro. The warrior has to continue to hold back so as to not pull aggro.
These are the primary snap threat reduction tools in the game:
Mages have invisibility (100% aggro dump, over 5 secs), and IB (temporary aggro drop)
Hunters have Feign Death (100% aggro dump, instant)
Rogues have Feint (20% aggro dump), and Vanish (100%? aggro dump, not sure... at worst it just works like ice block in that it can shed aggro as long as in stealth).
Warlocks have Soul Shatter (50% aggro dump, instant), if demonology with an imp out they can also have a constant 20% reduction in threat.
Priests have fade (aggro shed on a cooldown, instant)... though this might just be a temporary drop in threat. Still it's something.
Sadly warriors have only death. With the new content their armor is almost worthless, as they will still get dropped in 2-5 shots (depending on the mob). They are about as fragile as every other dps class now.
The way things are setup now, only classes with snap threat reduction can top the dps meters on boss fights... unless you have this amazing tank that generates so much threat that everyone can go all out w/o having to use a threat reducing ability (which rarely happens in my experience).
