Client.dll problems in cs

Blah,

I got the final piece for my new puter on saturday and started building it. After I got WinXP installed and happy, I installed half life. I then installed the full patch to bring it upto 1108. I tested it out and everything works. I then installed CS and DOD full installs. DOD works but CS gives me a "Can not load \dll\client.dll" error message. So I uninstalled, removed the folders, rebooted and reinstalled following the same procedure. Half-Life, patch, then mods. Still getting the error message. This happen to be the same installs that I use on my other PCs which happen to be Windows 2000 and 98 so my quess is it is a problem with Windows XP.

So I do a quick google search online for client.dll and pull up about every half life hacking site on the net with only one promosing return. The only problem is it is in spanish or portugues and the translator did not do a good job. So I was wondering if anyone knows of a fix to my problem. Thanks.
 
Hmmm plank that is an interesting one...I recently got xp and upgraded and reinstalled HL and it works ok except I can't mess with any options in-game i.e. controls/video/audio or I lose console. I don't think XP likes HL.

A friend of mine had this problem, go and look for that file it says it should be like Sierra:Halflife:Cstrike:Cl_Dlls the file might be missing for some reason or another if so someone needs to send you one i think.

this problem is in the FAQ on the cs website I believe... I've had it before and that's where i found the problem
 
Hmm i might need to get the retail patch for CS if im gonna have xp pro on my new machine then...

i currently use xp home and mod cs. I get no problems except for random having to refresh the video card if i load cs up via the desktop shortcut and not hlsw.
 
I know the file exists as I checked myself but I'll try copying a client.dll from a working machine and check out the faq on counter-strike.net too when I get back home and let you know what I find out.
