Check out ArenaNet's announcement of what they are doing for BWE 3:

IMPORTANT:
Beta Info Will Be Deleted

"Before this final Beta Weekend Event (and before Guild Wars 2 launches on August 28) we’ll delete all existing beta information. Every beta character and all information or items associated with them will be deleted. However, we will be preserving your beta account’s contact list so you can easily connect with your fellow beta gamers during Headstart Access or after launch."

I'm hoping that the character wipe means we get to rechoose servers at the beginning of the BWE, so I can join you guys on Eternal Grove.

Will there be info posted up here somewhere when the guild gets remade with IGNs to contact for an invite?

I just noticed it said BEFORE this next BWE and after it (of course). So does that mean ONLY asura and sylvari will be available to play?

They did advertise about the Keg Brawl, which is in the Norn territory. While Asura and Sylvari characters can still get to Norn areas I think it's safe to assume we'll still be able to play the other 3 races.

I did totally skip over that whole "before the next BWE" part. I was looking forward to tinkering with my Guardian some more. :/

Well Mr Sharpeyes on the whole Norn keg thing /doh! You're right.

Yup, I didn't see that whole wipe before thing (must have totally turned a blind eye to that) /sigh

But asura and sylvari - I plan an asura guardian and a sylvari thief- haven't played either prof so it should be fun!

I wasn't a big fan of the Mesmer, but it seemed like they got a lot of feedback about what was "wrong" with it from the last BWE. I am really eager to see the changes. I hope they considered the suggestion to change the Guardian's symbols into more of an aura.

I am torn between what to roll for my Sylvari and Asura. I already have my Human Guardian, Charr Ranger, and Norn Warrior. I'm thinking Asura Necro might be fun and a Sylvari Ele.

eek. My characters are gone? I had some really cool names that I don't remember.

Stc, I also was seriously considering rolling an Asuran Necro. I would hate for you to think I was a copy-cat... or copy-gnome as the case may be.

Kyrel, I didn't think that mesmer would be fun either... but I rolled a Charr mesmer just for giggles and he was awesome.

My goal this BWE is to only play professions I've not given much/any attention to thus far.

  • Engineer
  • Mesmer
  • Necromancer

I can't wait to test these guys out.

I know Arenanet went universal with allowing any race to play every class. But truefully some combinations just dont seem to fit, like a Sylvari Engineer. I mean a race made of plants is gonna be into bombs, guns and mechanical things. Azura Warriors are the same same to a lesser degree they remind me of people on WoW creating Gnome Warriors. Most of the swords and shields are bigger than they are.

Weapons scale to the character. That way a Norn and an Asura can wield the same sword and still look reasonable. The Norn wouldn't be holding a toothpick and the Asura wouldn't be wielding a tree.

When I was creating my character names I came across an article that talked about that. You are right, there are simply some combos that just don't make sense, to some degree or another. Sylvari/Engineer, Charr/Magic users, Human/Necros, Norn/Engineer, etc.

But the article went to illustrate that there are reasons to create odd profession/race combos. For example, Sylvari are inquisitive by nature and want to understand their place in Tyria, to do so a Sylvari may adopt an engineer lifestyle and live with humans to further understand another race so he may see how he himself fits in. A human may want to be a necromancer so he can understand the powers behind Zhaitan and his undead army and plot revenge for the enslavement of Orrian dead. A Charr may risk ridicule and ostracism for being a magic user but understand that there is a place in the legions for magic and take the stance that it is stronger to be persecuted and dutiful.

It's all about how you play your character out. The biggest help for me creating my characters was figuring out how each one viewed the world and their place within their society. That way I know how they'll respond to events in their storyline and how they'll play the game.

Plus it could just be funny watching an Asura run around with a broadsword.

I've never really understood this. It seems like a natural fit to me. Sylvari are all about learning about the world they've been born into, so science/technology seems like a perfect area of inquiry.

As far as bombs/fire/etc, they do just as much damage to flesh as they do to plant matter.
