Big questions on my mind..

What is the true puropse for us, what are we supposed to do with our lives. Gods supposedly had everything planned out for us long before we were born. But what did he plan for me, what am I supposed to do with this life?

Purpose driven life by Rick Warren helps u understand these things. my personal understanding is God put me here to do His will that will be for His glory

thanks I will have to pick that up some day.. but as I think about this, do I really want to know what my purpose is, wouldn't that take all the fun out of it?

lol yeah knowing and doing are different things. and ya know i wish God would reveal a few plans for me but heck He's said nothing for 5 months so i figuire i'll shut up and wait :P . but he has mentioned a few things that could come from the plans he has for me (long story could be moving, might not move). patience is a tuff thing but i hardly ask for it cuz as soon as i do God allows some testing to occur.

Erilidon-- As someone said, our purpose is to do God's will and plan for our lives, and that mainly includes worshipping Him. Yet the thing is, we often don't know what plan God has for us in the future, until we get there. Basically we have to 'roll with the punches'

Atown-- as a Christian, you should seek patience. Read, 1 Cor. chapter 13.

i do seek patience, just not very often.

This leads me to another question of mine, who/what utlimately controls what I do with my life. Is it Destiny, or Freewill? If everything is already determined for me, what is the purpose is having freewill, cause I don't really have it.

God has a plan. we have freewill. God knows our every movement and whether or not we will do His plan or not. Knowlege and Control are 2 different things. noone decides what u do, but God already knows

Erilidon can you choose to worship the Almighty or turn away from him?

But you do have freewill, even though what will happen, is already known by God. Its kind of like how you go to work and you can choose to work or not, and get paid accordingly. But you make the choice to do the work. Just like you make a choice to respond to this post. No power will stop you from doing it. You can either reply or not, God already knows whether you will or not, but its not the knowledge of whether you are damned now or will go to heaven that gets you into heaven or not. Its how you get where you're going and what God stuff happens.

Yes of course you want to know what your prupose is. If you do not look for your purpose you cannot do your purpose because you will have no idea what to do! God does have a plan for you yes as he has a plan for everyone. However it is up to you to follow his plan.

Doesn't anyone else find that a bit creepy? I mean, isn't that a little bit like what the popular set in HighSchool/College do? Surround themselves with wannabe's and yes-men to glorify their image?

Seriously, I'm sure it's all part of the ineffable plan and what not, but do all of you feel happy about being here solely for the glorification of God and, if so, would you feel differently if it was for the glorification of anyone else and who and why?

Created For God's Glory

Isaiah 43:7 God said, "Everyone who is called by My name, whom I have created for My glory; I have formed him, yes, I have made him."

We see that God created us for His glory.

John 17:4 Jesus said to God, "I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do."

We see that Jesus Christ lived to glorify God. We want to be like Jesus, so we should also live in such a way that our lives glorify God. We can correctly conclude that the purpose for our existence is to GLORIFY GOD. One might ask, "How do I glorify God?"

John 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work."

Jesus makes it clear that His purpose for being on the earth was to do the will of God. If we want to find the happiness that Jesus our Savior had, then we, too, must be committed to doing the will of God. God was glorified when Jesus obeyed the will of God. God is glorified when we do His will.

Some people will not allow themselves to be placed under the control of God or anyone else. God knows what is best for us and we should submit to His will. He created us; He knows what we need. We must not merely live the way we WANT. God is glorified when we live the way we SHOULD. God teaches us through the Bible the way we SHOULD live. He wants us to do His will, knowing that we will only find true happiness by serving Him.

We can please God only by discovering through His Word what HE wants us to do and what He wants us to be. To please God and have a meaningful and happy life, we must live to serve God through doing His will to accomplish the purpose for our existence.

Some people serve God only out of fear. We must learn to WANT to serve God because of our love for Him. After we learn how to love, then we will WANT to do what we OUGHT to do in spite of our failures.

So.. you see destiny more or less as a plan? And I choose wether or not I want to follow it? How do I know if I am following it? Am I following this plan when I Glorify God, do his will?

None of this really answers my question, you give me things out of The Bible and try to explain them. Maybe I am just ignorant. If I am ignorat, educate me, make all these things make sence. I am to live my life to glorify another, my entire purpose on this world is to do the will of another. That sounds like one crappy existence to me. Maybe it is just me, I am a born leader, I do not follow in the foot steps of others. I make my own life, no one controls it but me, There might be someone who knows the future, what is to become of me, but it is what I do that takes me there.

I am no longer seaching for purpose at this moment, that might change but it is another part of life, this thing that goes up and down, this thing that is always changing an adapting.

Life is…
full of joy
preparing for future
up and down
keep on challenging and overcoming difficulties
ever changing
making decisions at all times
keep on waiting
never too smooth
keep on learning
striving for excellence
enjoying this world for all its worth

My purpose in life at the moment is to make myself happy and not let all these things that you seem to understand so well bother me, I am a great person and I am going to be someone one day. And I really do hate to say this, but if you honestly can live a happy life serving another, more power to you, thats not me.

...... born leader... theres almost no such thing, yes u may have leadership abilitys but u cant always be the leader. lifes a dance u learn as u go, sometimes u lead, sometimes u follow. God wants us, u and me, to follow His example. now does this make God selfish for wanting glory?? heck no he created our every fiber the least we can do is give him glory through our actions. i mean think of it this way: say u created a robot with a complete will of his own. would u want the robot to run around and kill poeple?? does the robot killing people give u glory?? what if the robot went and helped the elderly, tuaght guitar lessons, look on CGA forums and pwned people on CS, etc, that would give u glory plus fame.

...WHAT did you say Atown? That post made approximately zero sense.

All right. Erllidon. I like your thinking. I'm gung-ho for it. If I didn't believe that nothing I do is truly inspired. If I didn't believe that everything I do was written out before I first squirmed up and then outta the womb.

I disagree with what you say Earl. I think, Earl, that life is no where near as mallible as you perceive it.
Alas, that is your philosophy, and like Mustard, like Kohael, like Eon, like Atown, and like al the non-believers and optimists out there, you will not bend away from that unless you do it on your own will. Not a single one of our words will change your mind.

I, the Untamed Cynic, do speak.
I also think that glorifying God may be not be our entire life purpose, and if it is, then I think it's only the subliminal, ultimate purpose, lying beneath some layer of our "earthly" purpose and point, if indeed there exists such a thing.
Ecclesiastes concludes, "Love God and keep His commandments, for this is man's all." Nice.

I think, Eon, the only prob with your analogy is that we're not dealing with anything human "up there".

Its not like that.  God gave us free will so we wouldn't be "yes men"  he gave us the ability to argue and to reason.  Just because we agree with everything it says because its inerrantly good doesnt mean that we are yes men.  He created us each with our own attitudes and strengths and weaknesses so that it would be separate people talking, not just a faceless crowd.

I think if you knew what it felt like to give all the glory to God, you wouldn't need to ask that question.  I think spending time with God is great, but if I did live my life solely for the glorification of God, I probably would be able to answer it more eloquently.

...

thats the simplest way i know how to explain it -_-. help??

So, what you're saying is that it's okay - because it's God, and only because it's God? I also notice a lot of traffic from people saying I couldn't possibly understand, without trying to explain why they feel fulfilled living as part of a clique! I'll never understand unless anyone explains. And I really don't get how you can be happy living your life as cheerleader for someone you don't really understand, whose motivations you are unsure of and whom you've never met or spoken with! Yike!
