A new Windows brought forward early?

Vista == ME ? Windows 8 = 2k

Unless they revamp WinFS and do some serious work it is gonna be a horrible flop. I guess they wanna copy leopard.

shoot im with cor, i might as well wait for it to come out and see how much better (or worse) it is compared to vista. i wonder if their trying to crack down on their release cycle O_o

i believe one of the big things in store for this is support for the new DirecTV PC tuners so you can tune satellite over your PC. This is a huuuuuuuuuuge feature for the HTPC market and will finally do away with the nightmare that is CableCard!

I highly doubt that as ms has millions invested in it's proprietary drm..ms is going to be very reluctant to license another drm to integrate into it's already infested os.

ok so we have minwin now.... a command line interface thats suppose to be the entire build for MS7..... You guys think the 64bit support will really be that much better than xp 64 and vista 64 since their making their server version exclusively 64bit??

I'll have to keep an eye out for that at work, may get a glimpse of it soon. Since all MS products are testing at the Data Center I'm at before release by us techies that work the server floor.

As a ms partner i already have the first three betas of server 2k8 and i just got the RC1 of server 2k8. I'm going to have to talk to my contacts at a defense contractor(who has the highest level of msdn access) and see if they have any rumblings..will keep you all posted..:)

I love SP2 of Windows Server 2003, it screwed up several services and required fiddling with DCOM to get things working again.... Great fun when you have virtually no return to figure out what the heck goes on when the service refuses to launch. Then there are the windows wants to restart so we will remind you every 20 seconds you are working despite the fact that you wont be able to restart me till 3AM because I am a critical service.

it has nothing to do with changing DRM to get DTV in - all the data that comes in, regardless of the tuner, gets wrapped in a dvr-ms header that encrypts it for local storage. the updates include sufficient driver support to handle the tuner, whereas the cablecard / ati junk was built in from the start. there are a lot of other changes coming for the media center component including in-band programming guide info (i.e. it will get it from the satco rather than a 3rd party provider as it currently does)

not to mention, doubt it or not - it's fact - the tuner was initially discussed 2 years ago, and was shown on brochures at CES 2008 - and there's been word of a tentative "more info" date of mid 2008 as to exact availability and pricing. i will correct myself slightly in that, it *is* being claimed that there may be a revision that allows content to be viewed anywhere on the the user's network (connected or disconnected is tbd afaik) rather than relegating it to a single PC, but that's not directly related to DTV support.
