A Guide to Insanity

I've had a few people asking me for tips/tricks/items/techniques on the Insane title so I've decided to post a guide. I'm crediting Wowwiki as my source for any information I don't remember firsthand.

1. Requirements
- Honored with the Bloodsail Buccaneers
- Exalted with Shen'dralar
- Exalted with the Darkmoon Faire
- Exalted with Ravenholdt
- Exalted with Booty Bay
- Exalted with Everlook
- Exalted with Gadgetzan
- Exalted with Ratchet

Disclaimer: It has been reported that Feats of Strength (which is what this title is) do NOT track partial achievements. Either you have it or you don't. I have heard of people getting the title and FoS WITHOUT having all reps at the same time, but I recommend taking the safe road and getting them all at the same time. It's only a few dozen more DM North runs. This guide will assume you are getting all the reps at the same time.

2. Prerequisites
You will need:
- Key to Scholomance (Blacksmithing Skeleton Keys will also work). If you decide to get the Scholomance key, do it before lowering your goblin rep, as you need to go to Gadgetzan to see a blacksmith.
- Crescent Key. Gets you into DM North and into the Shen'dralar area of DM North.
- A rogue of at least level 60. Level one or hire one. i recommend leveling one if you haven't already. You can't always trust a hired rogue to be there when you need him, or to stick it out until you are Exalted.



3. Nice to have, but not required
This guide will assume you have access to the following:
- MONEY. Just don't even start working for this title if you aren't willing to spend a large amount of money on it. If you REALLY want to, you can try to farm materials for Darkmoon Cards (and level a scribe), farm Pristine Black Diamonds, and farm librams. This probably will not happen though.
- Being an engineer or having an engineer alt. MOLL-E is the big asset here. Without her, you will be running back to Feathermoon Stronghold from DM North every time you get a libram, and every time you want to turn in a libram. Also helps with Ravenholdt too, as we will cover later.

4. Quick Rundown of Factions
Bloodsail Buccaneers: You will be killing everything that moves in Booty Bay. By time you are honored here, you will be hated with all goblin factions.
Booty Bay/Everlook/Gadgetzan/Ratchet: You will be running Dire Maul North, and releasing a goblin from captivity. Over and over and over again.
Darkmoon Faire: Primarily Deck Turn-ins. Only when the faire is in town.
Shen'Dralar: Libram turn-ins while running DM North. I told you you'd be spending a lot of time in there!
Ravenholdt: You will be turning in a repeatable quest of junkboxes to Ravenholdt Manor.

5. Auction House Camping
Send all your money to a designated banker alt (if you don't have one already. For best results, he should have his own guild bank, but this is not necessary.
You will be scanning the AH for:
- Libram of Protection
- Libram of Rapidity
- Libram of Focus
- Pristine Black Diamonds
- Cheap Darkmoon Decks
- Any and all Darkmoon Cards. I highly recommend picking up three Pack of Endless Pockets. They are cheap and you will love them. More about this later.
- Rugged Leather
- Large Brilliant Shards

It is up to you to learn what is a good price for an item, and how much you are willing to spend.

Ok, time to get down to business. You can do these reps in any particular order with the exception being that you must do Bloodsail before the goblin reps.

BLOODSAIL BUCCANEERS
This will be the easiest part. Put your best gear on and head to Booty Bay. If you're a tank, round up a ton of guards and knock 'em down. If you're squishy, you'll need to be more careful about your pulls. Kill anything that moves until you reach honored. For a bit of extra fun after you've hit friendly, do the quest Avast Ye, Admiral! and get some awesome pirate clothes and hat!

- 25 reputation per guard
- 5 reputation per NPC
- Number of kills needed will vary by player based on what you kill and where your rep is to start.



GOBLIN REPS
(Read Shen'dralar rep section before starting your Goblin rep, they go together)

Having completely burned all bridges with the goblins, save for one, you will now seek to make amends. This is done in two ways.

1. Completing the repeatable quest Free Knot!. The most efficient way to complete this is to kill ONLY guards. These have the highest chance to drop the Gordok Shackle Key, which is the only requirement for this quest. You can do this quest once per DM run, and you can run DM 5 times per hour before the game tells you that you've entered too many instances recently.

Here's what you do for the most efficient DM runs:
- Zone in, kill the first guard, hopefully get a shackle key.
- Go to the courtyard and loot the door key from the chest in the center.
- If you didn't get a shackle key from the first guard, kill the patrolling guard in this area.
- Go through the door, and down the hallway to Knot.
- Turn in any [Gordok Ogre Suit] quests you can.
- If you don't have a shackle key yet, kill the patrolling guard in this area.
- Loot the Ogre Tannin basket up on the platform above Knot.
- If you still do not have a key, go through the next door on the top platform and kill the guard there.
- If you still do not get a key, aggro a random mob on the top platform, and run/jump down to the bottom floor. This mob will aggro every other mob on his way down. Go around a corner near Knot so that the mobs all come to the same spot, even the casters. AOE them all down. Loot all corpses.
- If you still do not have a key, aggro a hallway mob, and run back to the instance entrance. He will aggro all the mobs on his way to you, and you can have another nice AOE fest.
- If still don't get a key, reset the instance and try again.

Pro tip: Staying ahead of the game.
It is common that you will get more than one key per run. However - you guessed it - the keys are unique and you can only carry one at a time. Once you get a key, free Knot, and then kill any remaining guard in the instance. Many times, you will get a key you can use next run. If this happens, you are considered to be ahead of the game. Now you can zone in, immediately free Knot, and kill the Ogre guards ON THE WAY OUT, hopefully getting a key for your next run. This is by far the most efficient way to go, and you should always be striving to be in this position.

2. Completing the repeatable quest Gordok Ogre Suit.

For each turn-in, you will need:
- 4 Bolts of Runecloth (Loot runecloth from the DM ogres you kill, make into bolts or mail them to a tailor friend to do it for you)
- 8 Rugged Leather (bought from AH or looted from Knot's Leatherworking Crate)
- 1 Ogre Tannin (looted from basket on the platform above Knot, or looted from knot's Leatherworking Crate)
- 2 Rune Thread (bought from a Tailoring Vendor)

You turn this quest in at Knot. It's worth it to keep turning it in, as this quest is NEARLY self-sufficient. Stock up on Rune Thread, then after Freeing Knot, he will leave you with a box of leatherworking supplies. ALWAYS LOOT THIS CHEST. Much of the time, it will provide you with Rugged Leather, additional Ogre Tannin, and some vendor junk. Once per run, you can find a Tannin Basket on the platform above Knot which will provide you with one Ogre Tannin per run. Combine this with your leatherworking supplies from Freeing Knot, and this quest just about turns in itself. You can repeat this quest as many times as you want per DM run, but you must turn it in BEFORE freeing Knot. The suits are Unique, so you must destroy (or equip for more fun) the suit before turning the quest in again.

Repeat both of these until Exalted with all Goblin Factions! See you in a few months!



SHEN'DRALAR
(I recommend doing this rep simultaneously while running DM North for Goblin rep.)
(There is a repair/vendor by the Libram questgiver that you can use to vendor any gear/trash you accumulate during your DM runs. This money adds up nicely and is worth saving the boss drops and trash you get from DM to vendor. I would wait til I got 1000g from vendoring these items, then mail that gold to my AH camper.)

You have been buying the aforementioned Librams from the Auction House and now they are in your mailbox, ready to be turned in. Not so fast. There are other materials needed.

The first thing you will do is farm:
50 Blood of Heroes - Look up Blood of Heroes on wowhead, and some nice poster listed all of the coordinates of these spawn locations. Spend half an hour manually plotting these into your minimap. Trust me, it will be worth it. I believe I used the addon TomTom.
50 Frayed Abomination Stitching - Run Stratholme for these. It's a good idea to have the side entrance key. If you are not familiar with Stratholme, you will need to kill summoners in three different buildings to get the central gate to open. Once open, go through and kill the abominations inside and pray they drop your stitching. You can expect anywhere from 0 to 5 to drop per run. Once you've killed all of these, wait for Ramstein the Gorger to spawn, as the stitching is a near-guaranteed drop from him.
50 Skin of Shadow - dropped by bosses in Scholomance, but most easily farmed by going down into Rattlegore's room and farming it from the elite mobs in there. Zone in, clear this room, loot your stuff, then run out.

(You may not need 50 of each of these, but it's a good start. You will eventually come back for more of something, depending on which librams you get. This is a good number to shoot for so that you can have these items on hand without wasting too much time.)

For every Libram of Protection you have, you will need:
- 1 Pristine Black Diamond
- 2 Large Brilliant Shards
- 1 Frayed Abomination Stitching

For every Libram of Focus you have, you will need:
- 1 Pristine Black Diamond
- 4 Large Brilliant Shards
- 2 Skin of Shadow

For every Libram of Rapidity you have, you will need:
- 1 Pristine Black Diamond
- 2 Large Brilliant Shards
- 2 Blood of Heroes

You will grab one of each of the above Librams (assuming you have each kind) from your mailbox and run the long hallway to the Shen'dralar questgiver. Turn in all three. Run back to your mailbox (no need to reset the instance), grab one of each again, and run back to turn in. Repeat until exalted!


DARKMOON FAIRE
Darkmoon Faire reputation can be gained up to 2000/6000 friendly using the repeatable quests available involving item turn ins. There are many possible turn ins, which have various cutoffs based on your current reputation. The top tier of turn ins that will always be available are as follows:
- 10 x [Evil Bat Eye]
- 10 x [Glowing Scorpid Blood]
- 08 x [Dense Grinding Stone]
- 06 x [Thorium Widget]
- 08 x [Rugged Armor Kit]

From here on out, you will need to turn in decks.

Many people think they need to level a scribe for this. You don't. At least on our server, Darkmoon Cards sell for less than the cost of the materials to make them. Look it up if you don't believe me.

As I mentioned before, you will want at least 3 Pack of Endless Pockets. In the default bag view, this will allow you to have one column per darkmoon deck, and one spot for every card, allowing you to easily see which cards you need and which you don't. When looking at my bags, I had each deck in it's own column, with WotLK decks in one bag, BC decks in another bag, and Vanilla decks in another bag. My bag spaces looked like this:

Each column is a deck, and each space has it's own card. I got a fourth bag just to hold completed decks. You can also buy completed decks that have not yet been turned in, if the price is right.

There are 12 possible decks to turn in, four from each expansion.

Wrath Decks:
Chaos Deck
Nobles Deck
Prisms Deck
Undeath Deck

BC Decks:
Blessings Deck
Furies Deck
Lunacy Deck
Storms Deck

Vanilla Decks:
Beasts Deck
Elementals Deck
Portals Deck
Warlords Deck

Potential money recovery here: You may want to stick to Wrath decks to resell the trinkets, but all decks give the same reputation. Trinkets are now BOE, so you will have a good time selling all the decks you make for the rest of your WoW career.

You will turn these in when the faire is in town, and you can turn them in regardless of where the faire is, even when it's in Mulgore.



RAVENHOLDT
Two simple things to do:

1. Farm mobs in Durnholde until they stop giving rep. Leave the 30-something Horde questers alone if you desire peace. You can do this until you are honored with Ravenholdt, and it is the most efficient way to build rep with Ravenholdt, even though it seems slow.

Neutral to 11299/12000 Honored:
- 5 rep per kill
- 4400 kills needed

2. Pickpocketing Heavy Junkboxes. You will need roughly 1400 Heavy Junkboxes. You will get your rogue and take them to Tyr's Hand. Other places are viable, but this is my guide and this is what I found to be most efficient. Empty your rogue of all items, even his hearthstone. You will run around Tyr's Hand, pickpocketing mobs using the following macro:

This macro will AUTOTARGET (biggest wrist-ache saver) and pickpocket the closest Scarlet mob to you, and DELETE ANY ITEM IN YOUR INVENTORY THAT IS NOT A HEAVY JUNKBOX. I repeat this macro will DELETE ANY ITEM IN YOUR INVENTORY THAT IS NOT A HEAVY JUNKBOX. Do not use this macro if you want to vendor or keep all the cheap trash that you will get while pickpocketing.

Once your bags are full, you will go north to Light's Hope Chapel and mail the Junkboxes to your intended Insane character. Rinse and repeat.

If you want to, you can open the Heavy Junkboxes and loot the money inside. BE CAREFUL NOT TO COMPLETELY LOOT THE JUNKBOX, AS IT WILL DISAPPEAR. This wasn't worth the time for me though, I turned in unlooted junkboxes.

Now log back onto your engineer. Take him to Fahrad in Ravenholdt Manor. Now get on your Insane character. Take him to the same place. With your mailbox full of Heavy Junkboxes from your rogue, get back on your engineer and pop BOTH MOLL-E and a REPAIR BOT. Get back on your Insane, get Heavy Junkboxes from the mailbox, turn in the quest, and you will receive Dusksteel Throwing Knife. Guess what? It's unique! Use the repair bot to vendor this before turning in your next quest. Once the repair bot dies or is on cooldown, you can also vendor these downstairs, but that is a little more running. At 1g32s each, you can decide if it's worth your time to vendor or simply destroy them.


CONGRATULATIONS! YOU ARE NOW INSANE!

Random tips:
- Remember to manually reset any instance you are farming in between runs.
- Remember to unload unneeded items at vendors whenever you can. Bag space is precious!
- Feel free to ask any questions in this thread. There are alternative ways to do most of the stuff in this guide, but this is simply what I found most efficient.

Hey Flame, Was wondering if you used any specific mods to help w/this. Gala told me about a mod he had heard about from Brootis and that seems extremely usefull. (Dottie) But wondered if you know of any others.

Unfortunately, one thing to remember is that, while working on this title, you are in direct competition with EVERYONE ELSE that is working on this title. There is really no part of this where people will benefit my working with another aspiring Insane. You are both vying for limited resources and limited mobs to kill. Working together on this is generally not an option unless you are looking to make enemies :P I did, however, make friend or two in the DM General Chat. I was careful not to share any tips until I was finished though. Another fun fact is that these are the people you'll be undercutting on the AH for months to come as you attempt to sell your Darkmoon Faire trinkets and recoup some of your costs.

Hey Flame, Was wondering if you used any specific mods to help w/this. Gala told me about a mod he had heard about from Brootis and that seems extremely usefull. (Dottie) But wondered if you know of any others.

I did not use any mods aside from the TomTom map editor for plotting Blood of Heroes. You are welcome to post anything that you find to help you though!

Also - I've updated the original post with the pickpocket macro. Works very well, but use at your own risk! Make sure NOTHING is in your bags when you start!
 
How about when killing guards in BB? Would a group all get rep? I'm currently working on Shen'dralar rep, I'm revered but these guys stun me so it's annoying, I usually have my pally in there duel boxing. But thought having a small group would make it easier to farm books faster. But ur right..we would both need books so maybe pointless. But I know for me there are times that maybe 2 books drop alike and I gotta leave one to run down and do a turnin. I guess thats where my engineer would come in handy to mail books off. Now I wanna farm more =)
 
Booty Bay guards would pretty much be the only time I'd recommend grouping. I don't think you lose any rep that way. And you must be getting lucky - I hardly had any librams drop - but the way I did it was only killing the guards for most of my runs, I didn't loot a ton of trash.

No...i'm to broke to even attempt this achievement. Although the title "________ The Insane" or whatever it is would be sweet to have. Gratz on getting the title! Its a big achievement
