    Baptism

I thought I'd bump this for the benefit of the guy that started the other baptism thread. There could be some interesting stuff in here for you to think about. I have done a lot of research on baptism over the past few years and have changed my beliefs from those held by Baptists to the ones...

    What's this...

I looked at it. There are no required fees or annual dues. However, I saw something about fees for online memberships. Maybe not a big deal because organizations need to get money somehow. The page where you sign up also has a clickable security tag that validates them as authentic, for what...

    Tolkien --> Pelagrin

lol, it's probably good that I changed my name. I just realized that I misspelled Tolkien in the subject.

Questions about IRC or our IRC channel

Pidgin is a cool IM chat client that also supports IRC. I didn't realize CGA had an IRC channel. If you see Pelagrin in there, that's me.

    Windows 7 RC...

Does any version of Windows REALLY ever get past the beta stage? ;) Personally, I'm still using XP when I use Windows. Otherwise I've pretty much switched to a mac at home. I also play around with Linux from time to time. I have a strong dislike for Vista. Hopefully Windows 7 is better.

    A+ core compTIA alternative school?

I'm A+ certified. It's a nice little addition to my resume, but that's about it. Having a degree is worth far more than a certification. A degree + certifications are even better. Employers value on certifications varys too. As a guy who's been doing IT for about 12 years now, I can...

    Baptism

Odd, I thought I replied to this already. I'm losing my mind. lol I'm glad you pointed the connection between baptism and free-will/election. In order to properly understand the biblical purpose of baptism, one must also consider where saving faith originates. I'm still forming my...

    Free will, or election?

I'll pray you find a good church. :)

    Is it really that simple?

Sorry, but what you're saying is actually not accurate. We are saved by what Christ did for us. THAT is the gospel. In order to live the gospel, then you must: 1) Live a perfect life from birth until death. Meaning, you must not commit any sins. Since the sin's of our father have been...

    Baptism

Thanks for sharing your opinion, but is is based on scripture? Is there a place in the Bible where scripture states that, "Baptism is a symbol to others that you have been saved and are publicly saying so."

    Baptism

Thanks for the input. However, that passage actually doesn't seem to demonstrate anything about the purpose of baptism as a public profession of faith. Rather, verse 11 clearly says that the purpose of baptism is for repentance. In fact, there are a number of other passages that demonstrate...

    Baptism

Thanks for the reply. I'd love it if you could post after you get a chance to refer to your notes. I agree that the bible teaches that one purpose of baptism is to baptize us into Christ. However, I still would like to know if and where scripture demonstrates that baptism is a public display...

    Is it really that simple?

Yes, but be careful to not confuse law and works with gospel. Gospel is Christ crucified for the forgiveness of sins. The law is summed up as love one another. Works are then an evidence of our faith. Also, read the rest of Romans 10. That chapter is clear that the Gospel must be preached...

    Baptism

thanks for the reply. My question was rhetorical, but I appreciate your thoughts on it. You mentioned baptism as a sign of faith again. You also mentioned that baptism is something that we do to show our love to Jesus. Where is that found in scripture? (verses and context) I'm not...

    Baptism

separating arguments I was just reading an article on carm.org and realized that it might be useful to point out a necessary separation on the baptism "debate". The article's question was, "Is baptism necessary for salvation?" I say no (the article agrees). However, the follow-up question...

    Is it really that simple?

That's it. However, I completely disagree with that St. Francis' idea. I believe for it to be biblically correct, we must always use words when we preach the gospel. The gospel as defined by scripture is summed up to be, "Christ died for the forgiveness of our sins." I don't think it's...

    Baptism

Thanks for the comments. I used to believe that too, but now I'm not sure. I've searched the bible and can not find any place that says that baptism is a public profession of faith. However, scripture does say that baptism is for repentance and the forgiveness of sins. Heck, in 1...

    Free will, or election?

sorry if I came across defensively. I didn't mean to. I was just clarifying that I wasn't trying to argue or debate with an intent to change people's mind. If anything I'd like to encourage people to turn to the bible to strengthen their own views. I agree with you completely on context too...
