    Skill Balances

UPDATE... I field-tested the new skill balances on my air elementalist and my "invincemonk" (I like that term, slice) to see how they were affected. Some observations: - Chain Lightning has been reduced slightly in potency, and its effective "chain" range is reduced, but it recharges faster...

    Elementalist - Which one?

I think the current flavor in PvP is lightning, which is particularly devastating against warriors and often is a direct (no-miss) attack. Earth still is useful as a support role. I think fire is more of a PvE thing (albeit a great PvE ability) and I never hear about Cold. My elementalist is...

    High-level solo build: Monk/Warrior

Although I tend to think of exploits in terms of bots and hacks, I guess others might simply see it in the broader sense - to them, an overly advantageous tactic might qualify an exploit. In the broader definition, a strategy guide or the "run" to Droknar's Forge (which could easily be kaboshed...

    Warrior Build Questions

I love the elementalist secondary for any warrior because of Earth armor and the great protection it gives for a tank. The mesmer has some okay leeching and interrupts, but I'm not sure it is really worth skill spots - some like Illusionary Weaponry, but you don't get that until fairly late...

    High-level solo build: Monk/Warrior

The original architect of this build used Healing Breeze, but subsequent testers found great success with Divine Boon. I've experimented with both and found Boon to be a better choice overall. Boon can actually be used as a healing spell in its own right - it costs 7 energy to use as such...

Gamespot article on Christian game developers...

It's one of the more even-handed articles I've seen on Christian Gaming. Gamespot's coverage of The Bible Game at E3 sounded more like satire.

    High-level solo build: Monk/Warrior

I read on a board that it was possible to successfully solo in the underworld and in several places in the field. I've done some practice work and it is indeed possible to solo in some places, given the right equipment. The build is best accomplished with a Monk/Warrior, although a Monk/Mesmer...

    Ranger Build Advice

In regard to beast mastery... it is useful early on when you are soloing but later on in the game it becomes more of a liability, particularly as late-game enemies seem to be able to whip most kinds of beasts. In the late game you will see good PvE teams use classic trap-pull techniques, and in...

    So...what's everyone playing now?

I'm pretty busy with other stuff, but the current docket is: - Guild Wars (PC) - messing around with the 3 characters listed below - Tales of Symphonia (GCN) - for the 3rd time, this time on the "mania" difficulty setting - City of Heroes (PC) - my 2-week free trial is about to expire and I...

    Protection Monk build

Like the majority of monks in the game, I have mostly made my living as a healing monk, but as I've reached higher levels I've seen the demand for protection monks grow somewhat, so I decided to dabble some. After a completely disastrous first go at it, I tinkered around in the field with some...

    GvG Writeup, and Announcement

One of the significant upgrades I made on my monk was changing my secondary from warrior to elementalist. I found during our Tombs experience on Wednesday that earth magic, specifically Armor of Earth, made my monk a whole lot harder to kill, and I can couple that with Spell Breaker to keep the...

    Outreach? What do you think?

I think one of the things that really appealed to me about SoE was that it was a "safe harbor" of good Christian players within the masses of Guild Wars; at least one other member expressed the same sentiments after being rudely spammed by some guy. Pulling in non-Christians, while very...

    Monk Build Suggestions

A few things to chew on: 1) Rebirth v. Resurrection: I'd take Rebirth. Why? Rarely do I have time to resurrect in combat; if I do, others are likely to go down from neglected healing. So I usually avoid raising the dead in the heat of battle unless things get desperate or one of the other...

    Monk Build Suggestions

I have been playing with a monk going on 135 hours now, and I am STILL trying to figure out what a good build is. (Privately, I would love to be a full-time smiting monk, but the demand for healing or protect monks are so high that the market just doesn't allow for it. I did get to do it once...

    PvP Team Build discussion

I don't think pacifism prevents offensive spells, but it would drive the warriors crazy, and that alone would be worth the price of admission.

    PvP Round-Up

    1. Yep. 2. Three major characters: Nestor Elias (Mo/W 20), healing, smiting, and some protection and tactics Jason Elias (Mo/W 20), who is essentially a PvP-only clone of Nestor Panos Adrastos (W/E 13), hammer, tactics, and some earth magic 3. I'm most experienced with a monk...

    Are mesmers any good?

The mesmer is, in my mind, the most underrated class in the game, in large part because others do not see them doing the same high profile jobs of hacking, healing, shooting fireballs or fire arrows, or raising hordes of undead as other classes do. But anyone who has been a warrior can tell you...

    PvP Team Build discussion

I like the idea. As a monk, I tend to get hit with backfire and other choice mesmer spells, which handicap my ability to heal. Rather than trying to put out fires by removing hexes, it would be nice if we could clear it out at the source.
