    Christmas

Mithra. He's the reason for the season. {Big J pauses, listens for laughter, and hearing none, continues} Kidan, I also wanted to ask you something. Huh? They do? Like which ones? I'm genuinely curious... Just to share...I have no intention of telling my future children about Santa Claus.

Is the BIBLE true? and what does this board think?

I'm too lazy to look it up right now.  There's a passage, I believe in Revelations, that says something to the effect that nations that turn against Israel will be smote and those that aren't will be blessed (IIRC).  Does my memory fail me?   I can argue that for a rather long time (up to the...

"Daughters of men" and "Sons of God"

man can = mankind, agreed. Of course, God saying let us make man in our image implies that "God" is plural and has a body. Or he could be schitzophrenic. Please tell me how you got that the "daughters of man" sprung from Cain's loins, while the "Sons of God" sprung from Seth. Understand that...

    Jesus, the Spotted Lamb

Mmmm...I can feel your Christian love there Atown.

Is the BIBLE true? and what does this board think?

No, I don't believe in God. But, here's my beef with it. We support Israel.  We have Christian leadership.  There are many ways God could have stopped the planes.  Perhaps they are modern iron chariots? If God existed, I see three possibilities: 1-He chose to punish us. 2-He chose to do...

Is the BIBLE true? and what does this board think?

Ah, but you obviously had the opportunity and exposure to Islam.  Look at it like this.  Prior to contact with Christianity, if an Indian died, would they go to heaven or hell?  most Christians would answer heaven, since they never had the opportunity, perhaps with a "if they led a good life" or...

Is the BIBLE true? and what does this board think?

(with Pop's addition of Islam...) Hmmm... So...I have to live a good life too? Somehow, I doubt that Vishnu will be happy with you. ;) Honestly, if you want to discuss this, I'd be more than happy to do so. It is a lot deeper than it appears.

Is the BIBLE true? and what does this board think?

Well, you have to understand that to Pascal, there were 2 choices...Roman Catholicism or Atheism. Given the choice...then you do have nothing to lose. BUT, given that God is all knowing, would he not know if you were simply playing the "nothing to lose?" Seems to me that those would be the...

    God, Doctrine, Islam and Mysticism

Oh, I agree that Ms and JWs claim to be Christian. But I just don't see their beliefs meshing at all with what the Bible says are requirements for salvation. Just saying. I'll put it like this. Muslims believe in Jesus, but they don't believe he was the savior, died, and was resurrected. He was...

    Can you lose your salvation?

Yes, I aparently did miss your point on the Holy Spirit. Your autopilot example was good. As far as the words being taken out or added to...one would need to infer that it pertains only to the book, since (1) there was no new testament at the time, and (2) Revelations (and the other books of...

Is the BIBLE true? and what does this board think?

Ah, Pascal's Wager. The problem is, there are more choices than just Christian v. non-belief. There are a large number of other choices as well...Judism, Islam, Hinduism, Pagan, Satanism (wouldn't that be ironic)...I'm just saying.

    God, Doctrine, Islam and Mysticism

Just a point. http://www.religioustolerance.org/wcotc1.htm WCOTC/TCM is not Christian in any way shape or form. They completely reject Jesus. On the others...I dunno. Mormonism is akin to Scientology. I do believe that the NT was written by people who believed what they wrote. John Smith makes...

    Can you lose your salvation?

Mmmm. I was a Baptist at one point. Trust me, there are a lot of hypocritical Baptists out there. There are a lot of hypocritical "Christians" out there period (please note, I can say the same about Muslims who drink, Jews who eat pork, &c., so I'm not just "Christian bashing" here)...

What Bible translation do you use?

Just $0.02 from me... NIV is a very political work. (So was the KJV, for what that's worth.) In my research on the Bible, I found that the RSV was the one that seemed to be the best as far as reliability goes. I do find it very interesting to compare different versions.

    Can you lose your salvation?

Very interesting takes on the verses. I chose those because those are the verses the IBF cited as reasons why you cannot be unsaved. Like I said, it makes more sense that if someone actively rejects God...how can they still be saved? (I'm not talking about in a fit of passion...I'm talking...

    God, Doctrine, Islam and Mysticism

His belief is pre-V2. (I asked once.) Do you believe that Jesus came, died, and rose? Do you follow his teachings? Congrats. You're a Christian.

    God, Doctrine, Islam and Mysticism

Sorry. I was just pulling a number out. I don't honestly remember how much it was in reality. But other than that...yeah...basically, you could buy an indulgence that was like a blanket pardon for a particular sin.

    Can you lose your salvation?

Just another thought...for those who feel that salvation can be lost...how do you rectify Romans 8:38-39 and Ephesians 4:30?  (I mean, there's three people that voted "yes," excluding myself and (I assume) Leo (being that it is the work of a person whose name begins with "P" and ends in "aul").)...

    God, Doctrine, Islam and Mysticism

Oh, one other note. I am not defending the practice of indulgences by any means. The way I heard it explained once was similar to a (secular) crime. If I speed and get caught...I could do weekends and work off the ticket (like penance) or I could just pay the fine (like indulgences). One of the...
