Don't know where you got that Tek. My schedule is really open in the evenings mostly. And I would absolutely love to play some competitive with you all.
You should be fine. You've got me beat on everything but processor and it runs great on medium settings on my machine. And since L4D isn't incredibly processor intensive for the client side you should be great.
I would definitely agree with limiting pyros, but as someone who plays spy quite often, spys tend to be a self limiting class. If you get more than 2 spies, sometimes even one, the other team gets so paranoid it becomes impossible.
I have a couple of friends who's apartment complex uses powerline ethernet for the internet they supply. It actually works pretty well from what they tell me and being able to place it pretty much anywhere is a great plus.
Why do you say that Sarugon? I think they help to keep teams better organized and you don't run into problems where one team is awful because everyone wants to play pyro or something like that.
I have a d-link DGL4300 same as you. I had many problems with it when I was using for routing and wireless, but since I've turned it's wireless off and using a linksys WRT54G for my wireless access point it's been fantastic. It's as stable as can be, the only time it ever needs reboot is when...
Can we just run around dipping a wrench in paint and whacking people with it? Don't know about the paint turret. I could probably build a manned one, but automatic's another story?
Happy Birthday Elihu!
I'm jealous that you got to go play paintball. That was part of my bachelor party last year and it was the most fun I've had in a while.
I would recommend buying a refurbed Linksys WRT54G (S or L), install DD-WRT, and set it up as an access point. Keep the D-Link as your main router. This is the setup I currently have and it runs great. If you really want to stabilize the connection you can buy another linksys put DD-WRT on it...
Yes but RHEL is based on older versions of Fedora. Personally I currently use Fedora 9 on my server as opposed to Centos 5 because the repos are much more robust, but for a game server you don't really need anything beyond the basic packages.
I think Centos is definitely the best option for game servers. Personally I've used Centos 5, and several different versions of Fedora for servers. For simplicity Centos definitely wins, but it also has some missing software in it's repositories.
Dell home and Dell Business are two completely different stories. I worked for my schools server maintenance area and Dell when it comes to the business and server hardware are quite solid.
On the main point, the config HCS picked out looks great and I definitely think we should trust his...
If you want something bigger and cheaper I would recommend this.

I have one and a friend of mine has one and we've both been extremely pleased
That's kind of what I thought too except that I unhooked and rehooked all the cables, moved the hard drive around to make sure it was right, and tried every possible configuration of order to plug stuff in. Still did the same thing. So I really don't know.
Glad to see they nerfed the Sandman, but I still think they need to reduce the stun duration. Maybe make it increase more with range, but start much lower.
