Spam Smackdown

CGA Forum Moderators are going to be cracking down on the spam.

You've been warned.

Our IRC channel (#cga on irc.us.gamesurge.net) or TeamSpeak server might be better suited to more casual conversations.

Can you please define spam?

I tend to think all my post are informative and/or entertaining.

They very rarely are solely for raising my post count.

However, some would argue I am currently spamming.

I am actually happy that we're going to get more de-spammage around here. I have noticed that there is a lot of spam. A LOT, and it's kind of annoying. The moderators have my full support.

Also, I've noticed that there are a couple deleted threads. Would it be possible just to LOCK them so that we can see what they say, and perhaps badger the poster a bit? Eh? It'd all be in good fun, and I can't help but be interested in what mpp5003 said, or Braveheart, or what Atown's poll was about. But as they say, curiousity killed the cat...

Or as Tek said, "It turtles all the way down."

The high irony of posting a topic about the crackdown and enforcment of spamming rules...people spam the thread...

It's not spam, it is discussing the topic, which is: SPAM

So the question is: If it is still relevant yet spammy, is it still spam? Maybe it is like getting a jumbo sized spam.

honestly i think its a little much mostly because this area can get a little dead without a little spam here n there, but if it restricts C$ then by all means :D

Instead of spamming, maybe we should think of ways to liven things up around here. Current event discussions? Game discussions? Religious discussions? Maybe we can have "research papers" on other religions or topics so that we can learn some stuff.

Another thought:

Spam has been caused by the INCREASE of pointless topics and nothing really to talk about. If we DECREASE pointless topics, stop talking about nothing, and make all of this worth something...then the *Level 500 (Elite) Internet Entity* known as Spam (Boss), will DIE! (Even though I have to agree that I enjoy spam sometimes, and I do not recall ever using it to boost my post count)...

I (and a great deal of others) use the WoW forums to keep in contact with each other during off gaming times. The spam that happens in there is really a continuation of our online relationships. Even in guild chat, we spam each other. Cassadine is the king of guild chat spam because last night he goofed up on a macro or something and spammed guild chat about joining a group or something. It was all very confusing as the wall of text crit me for 51326549874651321654 damage and everybody died of laughter. I'd personally be upset if a general mod or a mod from another set of forums came in and moderated what they felt was spam in the WoW forums.

I read somebody mention that we need more serious topics. Sure, start them, keep them serious. In the WoW forums we have very serious discussions about raid strategies in the raid forums. We know not to start those types of discussions in the general forums, they tend to be targets for one of our SPAMULATORS (SPAM YOU LATER, I'LL SPAM YOU BACK).

Admitedly, I tend to be more of a SPAMTRIBUTOR over a contributor in a great deal of threads. I also look for entertaining threads to contribute to. Fun threads and the like. I'll shy away from another forums "serious" threads.

I agree with Icthus. I would like the new rule explained. A definition of what is considered SPAM would be nice. Knowing which parts of the forums it applies to would be nice as well.

A definition would be nice, mostly because back in CS chapter we had the hotdog thread and 3 word story that run hundreds of pages, and the 3 word story ran in GW too. I guess what im trying to say is there is a difference between silly threads and spam ya know?

An official definition should be forthcoming, I doubt Tek would leave moderators to subjective deleting of posts.

I have the question of: does this apply to only the shared forums? or the site as a whole? If it applies to the site as a whole, the SoE/SOE off-topic thread is dead meat..

This posting has come from the head of the CG Alliance directed towards the forums.

That said, the sub forums for affiliates are semi-autonomous, and any such statements like this should come from either the leadership of the affiliates or that sub-forums moderators.

Additionally, an off-topic thread is designed for socialization of that nature, and while such conversations are truly suited more for IRC, TS or IM, unless directed otherwise by those in the command chain above me, I would probably turn a blind eye to such a thread.

.

So you being a moderator of some sub-forums can you clarify which forums this DOES affect that you are a moderator for?

telling u the truth i think if u guys make it so we cant spam im not going on forums like at all anymore. i come on forums to talk. and its makes ppl laugh with some of the spam! i mean i can understand not wanting to handle with spam but im a teen i talk and i talk about NOTHING worht value to anyone but me. so i also agree define spam, we can have serious posts yes, but u need the fun in life. life isnt just serious and the forums has always been a place i go to cheer up if im down just cause all the ppl talking about nothing is amazing.
getting rid of spam is like destroying the heart of our forums. yes i know we r Christians and proud of it. but we can praise him through fellowshiping and laughing with fellow Christians! its fun to be able just to joke around with fellow Christians and not have to worry well will this be considered "spam".

these r my opions as MINISTER OF PROPAGANDA and i think redeemed as a whole will stand with that taking spam away from our forums is like destroying it all together
