Did your Mom ever tell you, "Quit crying or I'll give you something to cry about!"? That is what God is saying to Jeremiah when he started whining about doing what God told him to do. I like the New Century Version of the verse:
"Jeremiah, get ready. Stand up and tell them everything I command you to say. Don't be afraid of the people, or I will give you good reason to be afraid of them." Jeremiah 1:17 (NCV)
