I for one am excited to play the game, and much prefer the Bounty Hunter side of the game =P
ToJ, make the right decision! Go with the Sith people!

My name is Xpunginator, and I approve this message.

Please, nerd it up.
I agree that the Sith Lords tend to create "Law", when they themselves are not subject to that law. They rule by fear and power. And while citizens of an empire ruled by Sith may not be adversly affected by the chaotic nature of the Dark side, those in power and in the chain of command certainly are. How many officers have we seen or read about getting killed for making a bad decision or two, or not even a bad decision, but one that did not produce results appreciated by a Sith, and then be killed in a fit of rage? That is not law, that is chaos. Unless you want to argue that chaos is the law of the Sith, you cannot be right in saying that the Sith are Lawful.

As to the Jedi, they are not as indecisive as all that. They make themselves subject to whatever ruling government they see as being the best option for the masses, and in doing so, they have had their hands tied by politics, but remember, for most of the Star Wars films, that was due to the influence of the Dark side. Add to that the differing philosophies held by force users (http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/The_Force) and you can't say that "all" forcer users of either side held the same ideals. And the Jedi have held a great deal of autonomy, and behind the scenes many Jedi are out doing missions that have a real and direct impact in the fight of good vs evil.

ergh, it's almost two a.m., not even sure if I am making sense. Oh, today is my anniversery, been married six years. And my brothers wife just went to the hospital, hopefully to give birth to my new niece named Brooklyn. My daughter is due for her antibiotics in a little bit, so I will be staying up for another hour, but I think I'm going back to play some modern warfare two.

Okay guys, I've read this whole thread and thought I'd put my 2 cents in...start a poll. Erik if you want to start a Galactic Empire guild thats great, go for it. Personally to me its just a game, and if people don't think they can handle playing the "dark side" because they are the "evil" group in the game...probably shouldn't be playing games in the first place. You should never let a game control you so much that your worried about what side you play on...its just a game.

So instead of turning ToJ into a "daddy knows best" gaming group...let the people who are going to be playing vote on it. Its the only fair way to do it instead of forcing everyone to play "light side" or telling them its wrong to play "dark side". You'd be surprised how many mature adults are actually going to be playing this game...and most of us don't let the character we play in the game affect how we act in RL.

Besides...everyone knows the "dark side" has way cooler powers...

I always wondered what happened to the kids and their parents who refused to join the Jedi. I mean seriously, when they are a state-sanctioned warrior monk with a lightsaber at their side, trained in aggressive negotiation, and capable of influencing people's minds comes knocking at soom poor family's door...

I'm pretty sure they used force, or at least the implicit threat of force, to take the kids.

Just sayin'. Not to mention the Jedi showed themselves to be absolutely horrible at reading people or understanding relationships. Despite their so called skills. Who in their right mind would send a young man to guard a young woman on a distant and beautiful planet, generally alone, and NOT expect something to happen?

First of all, I found your 2 cents to be very rude and disrespectful.

Secondly, no game is just a game, you are dead wrong. You can see this if you take it to something you may have a problem with, such as playing a pornographic game or a game where you do any immoral act that YOU would have a hard time accepting as "just a game". And Daddy does know best, that's why God never instituted a democracy. We do what we are told or we rebel against authority. Our own country was a constitutional republic, and now I don't know what I would label it, because it has elements of many forms of government, such as socialism, communism, and democracy (a sham democracy at that). But everytime God's people thought they knew what was best, they failed. God was King, then He used Judges, then when Israel complained He gave them there own King. The husband is the leader. The parents make the rules. etc etc.
We obivously have no problems here playing games where we kill in the "game", but like I said, I would not engage in any sick behavior if a game offered it such as rape or molestation. Would you say it was just a game then? But don't answer, I really don't want to hear anything but an apology from you for being so rude.
As far as I am concerned, if I am going to run a chapter and guild, then I am not going to run polls. Tek is going to make decisions, I am going to make decisions, and when the guild has officers, then they will help make decisions. Members can speak their minds (hopefully with more respect then I have seen so far) and the leaders will take that into consideration.
Up to this point, only a couple days after this has unofficially started, there has been more drama and nonsense from us christians than I ever had running guilds in WoW and War.
Obviously on the internet you always have to be warry of flamers and trolls, and in the church there are gonna be tares in with the wheat.
You really had some nerve telling me I had no buisness playing video games because I see morality and motive as being relevant in a virtual online world, even though it is in a fantasy setting. My mind is a battlefield, I fight constantly against lust and selfish thoughts of manipulation and violence. Even when I read your post I got angry and this is just a forum where most communication does not take place in real time.

For the last time I hope, I am leading a Light side guild, for whatever reasons at this point. If you want to be a part of it, I welcome you. If you don't, just keep your negative coments and complaints to yourself, or start an anti-erik discussion. Like I said, I have no problems either if you guys group up and start a Sith guild, but until Tek says otherwise, this chapter is not going to contain that guild at launch. You can have an alt in our guild if you start off Sith. Please, leave the crying to children.

I am somewhat sorry for my tone. I love you even if I'm admonishing you, and at this point, I really wish we could talk face to face so I could give you hug.

I'm not going to criticize this statement beyond this: however good your intentions are, this comment come off as condescending in the extreme. Whether you are right or not is not the matter in question here. People will have a very hard time indeed rallying around you as a leader if they feel you are going to be talking down to them.

Remember that your authority as a leader is not innate, but only stems from your willingness to volunteer for this post.

People, people. This is getting out of hand. Both sides of the debate have been unnecessarily harsh.

Erik volunteered to lead a Galactic Republic guild. He doesn't want to lead a Sith Empire guild based on his own personal convictions. I expected members to respect that. There is a time and place for polls; this is not such a time or place.

While I'm surprised at the number of members who are eager (whether seriously or jokingly) to form a Sith Empire guild, the one member who has committed to invest the time and effort to lead a guild has decided to align that guild with the Galactic Republic faction.

I have never stated or suggested that Tribe of Judah is a democracy. People can request what they will, but if no one is willing or able to work on said request, it will not happen. It is easy to post a request or suggest a change. It is a much harder thing to volunteer to serve as a staff member and work toward that change or filling that request.

As an organization led by volunteer (read: unpaid) staff, we have to be selective of what projects we undertake. Ultimately, the people who do the work make the decisions. To operate any other way would spread resources too thin, discourage volunteer staff members (why would they continue to invest time and effort in work they don't believe in or enjoy?), and ultimately stall growth of the group.

I am careful, now more than ever, who I appoint to staff. I spoke with Erik over the phone and at length regarding his background and his interest in volunteering. After the conversation, I decided to give him authority over a Tribe of Judah guild. Erik's authority did not derive solely from his volunteering for Guild Leader; it derived from my appointing Erik as SW: TOR Guild Leader. The trust that I displayed should be sufficient for members to trust Erik in his efforts.

I have always made and continue to make what I believe to be a reasonable effort to listen to and consider the desires of members when making my decisions. There are occasions where I make an unpopular executive decision.

There was a time when there was discussion of starting a Tribe of Judah Diablo II chapter. Even though there was interest in such a chapter, I didn't feel comfortable with the idea, so I vetoed it. It was not a democratic decision.

Members are asking Erik to go against his personal convictions (whether that was their intention or not) and do something he does not want to do. Some (not all) members involved in this discussion are implying Erik has two choices:
  1. Change the guild faction from Galactic Republic to Sith Empire
  2. Start the guild without said member's participation or help
There is a third option: Volunteer to lead a second guild.

Instead of simply asking for a change, members earnestly interested in a Sith Empire faction guild should be volunteering to lead or help lead such a guild.

The guild Erik will lead will be a Galactic Empire guild. That decision is final; however, there remains the possibility of a second SW: TOR guild if someone steps forward to lead it. I still have personal concerns about a Christian gaming group representing themselves as an "evil" faction (whether lawful or chaotic) in a major MMORPG.

If you are a Tribe of Judah member in good standing and are able and willing to invest the time and effort involved in serving as a Guild Leader, please send me and Elihu a PM and we'll talk.

Understand that the position of Guild Leader carries more responsibility and time than most other staff positions. This is not a decision to be made lightly.
