Letting the Spirit Take Over

People remember God’s true character when they realize they can’t do it on their own.

Judges 3:15-30

Ehud was a man chosen by God to deliver Israel from Moab.

Moab was a country made up of those who practiced idolatry-worshiping gods such as Baal, Chemosh and Ashtar.

v. 12
The Lord strengthened Moab because of Israel’s treachery.

Every time they sinned against Him, they basically turned their back to Him.

He would not turn His back on His chosen people.

v. 14
God gave the city of Palms to Eglon of Moab.

There are consequences for the actions.

Israel strayed from its path and ended up having to be humbled by the Lord.

Being humbled is not fun.
They had to serve Eglon, a king who is described as fat and selfish, for a period of 18 years.

Then the Israelites cried out
v. 15
When the Israelites cried out they got a response. God raised up another Judge, Ehud who was a Benjamite. It also makes a point of him being left-handed.

When we cry out today we get a response.
Israel was bound by another nation, because of there sin.
We are bound today by our flesh, our sin.

God gave us the Way to give us a second chance. So we wouldn’t HAVE to be bound, and that is in Jesus Christ.

v. 20-23
God delivered the Israelites from Moab.

It isn’t always in the way you expect. God uses what is going on around you, and is righteous and just in whatever choice He does decide.

In this choice He decides to have Ehud kill Eglon.

How did he kill him, with his left hand.
Judges 20:16 says that the left-handed man was very accurate and his shot was unexpected.

God is true in everything He does. Sometimes we don’t expect how He will handle things. Eglon didn’t expect it.

They were delivered
v. 28
Ehud tells them to follow me because the Lord had delivered them.

Ehud did God’s work. God allowed it to happen. He called Ehud to that purpose.

Then the Israelites stopped at the crossway to Moab and they killed thousands of men of Moab.

v. 30
The land was undisturbed for 80 years it says. They lived under God for 80 years, lived for Him, gave glory to Him, and then they fell again.

God came to them when they called for Him. He knew the nature of the people at all times.

But just because we sin, doesn’t mean that He won’t come.

He forgives.

Are you letting Him take over? Problems like this wouldn’t occur ever, if we gave it all to Him.

He wants you to know that you can come to Him. He wants to be His though. If you are, He will bless you in His own special way.
