2 Peter 1:5-11 (KJV)
5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; 6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; 7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity. 8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. 9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. 10 Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: 11 For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

These are the fundamental words every Christ Follower should endure each and every day if we are to grow. Think of them as building blocks, each underlined part adding (improving, growing, adding to) the previous one.
Yes indeed, some are easier than others and it is our instinct to pass over those which are hardest, maybe seemingly impossible at times. But none should be avoided lest we grow blind!
What does it mean to go blind? Will our eyesight falter? Not in a physical sense, but spiritually. If we lose sight of Who Saved us, if we engage our own understanding as "Look how far I have come!" then these areas of our life have no true meaning. Sure it may be hard to love someone who just cut us off in traffic, yes it may be hard to give someone something we ourselves need. But look what Christ did: He cut off the second death from us. He gave us His life so we may have Life.
Don't focus on today or even yesterday so much, but instead focus on the future where we shall be surrounded by The Glory Of God!
