Our email service provider started blocking outbound email without notifying us on March 26. Unfortunately, I only discovered the change today. (Thanks to @Spynamite for alerting me to the issue!)
I've configured the forums to use an account with a different outbound email service provider, tested the new configuration, and confirmed that we're able to send automated emails, including registration confirmation emails, again.
TL;DR: Registration confirmation emails are working again! New forum users should be able to register new accounts without issue now.
