I always thought this was true for all artists. Personally I buy my CDs used, simply because I like the artwork/lyrics/etc.

I think the record labels care more about the "stealing" issue than the artists themselves.

In Canada, the Canadian Government charges a royalty on blank CDs and Tapes to set up a fund to compensate artists for illegally DL'ed music in Canada. Not a single artist has received their royalties yet. But, its still legal to DL music in Canada, technically, we've paid the royalties.
