In Cataclysm, guilds themselves will gain XP and levels. Each level comes with a perk, and unlocks special guild member-only rewards.

EDIT: In the section on rewards purchasable from the guild, it says "These items are bound to the guild; if a member possessing a guild item leaves the guild, the item is returned to the guild bank." I am 99% sure this is wrong. I'm pretty sure Blizzard said they decided that they did not want to take items away from people.
