What Valve doesn't know ...

I nearly fell off my chair today when I got an email from Alfred Reynolds, key team lead for Half-life, Counter Strike, HL2, and CSS. He was responding to a question concerning some problems server ops were having with a particular content server ...

"As a player of WoW I must say that I hate the bit torrent updater.
During the WoW beta is was painful to use and since it hasn't been much
better. Right now we can satisfy bandwidth demand for releases from our
existing pool of content servers (and more are being added each day). We
have been throwing around peer-to-peer ideas (in particular for LAN
environments) but any implementation is months/years off. Given that we
have more bandwidth than Italy we have a strong bargaining position for
purchasing of bandwidth."

He plays WoW so I messaged him and confessed as well but I was shocked to see him admit this on a Valve - Linux server mailing list :) Oh and his comments on bit torrent are not completely accurate seeing that Blizzard has butchered the BT protocol and bent it (deformed) to their will.
