Before the downfall of Jerusalem in 586 B.C. God told the people through Jeremiah:
In those days, when your numbers have increased greatly in the land," declares the LORD, "men will no longer say, 'The ark of the covenant of the LORD.' It will never enter their minds or be remembered; it will not be missed, nor will another one be made." Jeremiah 3:16 (NIV)
I don't know how many times I have read that - but it hit me anew on Monday. The ark of the covenant represented God's presence with his people. But he was going to change all that.
"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people." Jeremiah 31:33 (NIV)
How wonderful to be part of that covenant.
