Just read the update notes for Feb 19 patch. I was elated to find this one.....


Fixed a case where a spy stabbing from the front of a player would score a backstab


Can't express how mad that used to make me... Glad it got fixed. :)
 
It will still happen. A lot of the time it happens it is because of minor lag and not a code issue. It looks like you are in front of them to you, but to the server it could be different. It only takes a ping of 70 to really change aim in close combat fights. I imagine it will be reduced, but I guarantee you it will still happen sometimes.
