[LINK] The CPL Ceases Operations

Hmmmmm...I didn't see this coming. Siting out conversation about PC gaming being in the trash, is this just another symptom? Or completely unrelated?

I wonder if the "fragmentation" line could be translated to "less and less people are playing FPS games and we can't do tournaments in WoW".

wow this is insane. what other organizations do fps tournaments?

And THAT'S why you NEVER use Counter Strike 1.6 as your flagship game.

Seriously though, the only reason pro gaming is in the trash is because the only games that are spectator friendly are boring to play... like Counter Strike, and especially Halo (moon gravity).

All the games that are fast-paced and fun to play don't get picked for competitions because nobody that hasn't played the game understands what is going on.

Isn't that just an education issue though? The league (not just CPL, any league) could do more to educate spectators on what it is they're watching, what to look for.

Anybody who goes to the ballet without some prior knowledge isn't going to enjoy it as much as the person who read the synopsis and has some understanding of the physical difficulties of performing some of those leaps and spins.

And also, isn't *any* game that you spectate going to be a little esoteric if you're not already a fan of the game?
