This thread is for all the people that were shocked when I told them that I hadn't played The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time yet even though I've been playing video games since 1985 and consider myself an expert on the subject. You know who you are.

As of the time of this post, I've collected the Iron Boots and have arrived at Lake Hylia to search for the entrance to the Water Temple.

Oh boy, you're in for a real "treat" there. I hope, for your sake, you're not playing the master quest version.

I didn't like the game. :/

.....weirdo. Please keep all opinions that differ from the majority away from us. We shall all ostracize you now. (kidding)

What part didn't you like Keero? I mean I've never been crazy about the "young" link part (I didn't think Link was that young in the other games just a short elf). Navi's ahem "help" is a reoccurring joke about the game too but not as annoying as people make it out to be. I always liked the game because it was soooo open compared to any other (console) game before it, you could play as older (taller) cooler link and it was one of the first console games with a ride able horse. It's like the first classic adventure story made in 3-D (for console). Now Majora's Mask is another story >.> .

...and yes I know Zelda has Shinto-Buddist imagery but that's nothing new to the series and it's a lot tamer than most games.

You are not a professional if you've never played Ocarina of Time, no questions.

My Ocarina of Time account has everything (including no deaths!) except for ONE LAST 1/4th of a HEART PIECE!!!

My account and the game is perfect.

I thought Majora's Mask was a great game, you could say I loved it.

Its only problems were that it was a Zelda game and came out after Ocarina of Time. You can't one-up perfection - no matter how great it is.

The only issue IMO was that they nuked all your items every time you went back. It just isn't fun to have to go to the bank, then buy equipment 50 billion times. The game had massive replayability aside from that small annoyance.

Majora was not a bad game it was just a blatant cash in reusing all the art assets from Ocarina. That and you could not play as older link only "Fierce Deity" Link at best (I do not care to play as a kid even when I was one in real life >.<). Majora did have the classic Zelda overworld theme which was the one glaring omission from Ocarina.

Tisk, tisk you mean you didn't collect EVERYTHING? Prod, prod :p .

what console?
At the time of Ocarina there was no other game like it on console systems (I was not much of a Sega or Playstation fan at the time but I didn't think they had anything comparable to Ocarina). It was the the height of the N64. First mario 64 ushered in the 3-D power for Nintendo then Ocarina was THE adventure game to do the whole classic fairy tale thing with it (and no the horrible Quest 64 does not count bleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeech http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quest_64). Of course as systems go the N64 didn't have a lot of great games compared to other systems, it was the time of the Playstation really, but Nintendo still had Zelda.

Well Gerbil, it was dumb. The camera was bad, the helper annoying, boss fights lame, and dull levels.

Levels where kinda spartan but that was the limit of the tech at the time. Navi was annoying. I don't remember any camera issues lock on worked most of the time for me. I did want a more complex sword fighting system though. I liked the boss fights although you may not have played the first Zelda to see the references to the original bosses.

Sounds like it was just too easy/simple for you. Zelda's difficulty and complexity has always has been made with a younger age group in mind.

Okay, so I cleared the Water Temple tonight and...I don't want to talk about it. I wanted to throw my controller across the room, but now that it's over, I just don't want to talk or think or dream about it ever, ever again.

I think a lot of the "Ocarina of Time v. Twilight Princess" discussion online is colored by nostalgia. Having played Twilight Princess first, I prefer it over Ocarina of Time. The controls are sharper, the characters are more endearing (especially Midna), and the game is just more fun to play. I didn't play Ocarina of Time when it came out in 1998 or the 10 intervening years between its release and when I downloaded it from the Wii Shop. (I downloaded it last year, but got sidetracked when I started playing Okami, which I also enjoyed more than OoT and, yes, even more than Twilight Princess.)

I won't deny that Ocarina of Time is a masterpiece. I just think that Nintendo took note of what players had to say about OoT and tried to incorporate those changes into TP. (One example that comes to mind is being able to switch between the Iron Boots and regular boots in TP with a single button press whereas in OoT the player would have to access the menu, highlight the Iron Boots, and unpause.)

I'm going to try not to let my negative experience playing the Water Temple taint my view of the rest of the game. I did have a great time playing through the Fire Temple (probably because I didn't have to consult a game guide even once, huzzah!), so that's a positive.

Bahahahahahahah!

My favorite temple was the Desert one near the Gerudo Fortress. I loved that boss.

So your playing OoT on the Wii controller? No wonder the controls feel unresponsive :P

I'm working on completing my Zelda collection. I've beaten LoZ and AoL a long long time ago and beat OoT just a long time ago. Now I'm working on Majora's Mask and still haven't beaten TP yet. Few years ago I picked up The Legend of Zelda Collector's Edition that has the first 4 playable on the game cube and wii

He's using a Wavebird. Though not an N64 controller, it's far better (for this purpose) than a Wii controller.
