Okay, if you've watched any of the new series airing in Japan this fall and want to share your reviews, post 'em here!

I was out of town this weekend, so I didn't get to download any fansubs until I got home, but I've watched CLANNAD 1 last night and am happily confused. I'm still thoroughly enjoying the summer series Dennou Coil as well

Clannad was pretty good, but it is more social then action which some people wont enjoy as much. Dragonaught looks promising, the first one was very good. The new gundam has potential, but like always you don't learn anything about the characters until several shows later.

History's Strongest Disciple Kenchi

Whoops I already posted this in another thread before seeing this one, but, I liked "History's Greatest Disciple Kenchi". The show just finished it's season so I don't know if it is apt to post it here (being a last season show which you may have seen). It's still unlicensed though for those who haven't. Here is a review if you want it...

Objectable Content:
Usual Japanese fanservice. Much of which serves some joke, but, no nudity or anything explicit.

A couple cuss words, one in the first title song and a couple f's in the entire 50 episode run, much of which is determined on which fansub you watch. The kuro-hana version has even less cussing and is a better translation over the umai-Doremi one. Really extremely little language overall. NOTE: The umai-Doremai one had a few corrupted or incompatible episodes with my computer too.

The show centers around fighting although I have a objection to none of it as it is always in a moral context and none of it is gory.

Some Taoist stuff.

The Bad:
Uses many conventions that have been already used in anime, other fighters watching narrating a fight, one character has a healing ability plot device, the vast majority of defeated enemies become allies, etc.

I dislike their art style of drawing women's chests which makes other anime seem realistic. Think two compass circles frequently large, blech.

The Good:
Virtually everything Kenchi does is heroic and has a moral backing.

The martial arts moves used have some basis in reality (although still exaggerated and impossible). To compare the ones in "Dragon Ball Z" and similar anime have no restraint and make the ones in Kenchi seem much more sensible.

All the characters are deftly made and are likable or hate-able as the show requires.

Even when you know what is going to happen it still ends up being funny which is rare for me :)

The Plot:
Bullied Kenchi is the weakest guy in school until he meets Miu a transfer student and strong martial artist. She takes him to meet her strange adopted family of martial arts masters and they end up taking him on as a student. While reluctant Kenchi endures the harsh training of his masters (to comic effect) he becomes stronger and increasingly strong delinquents seek him out.

Bottom Line:
History's Strongest Disciple Kenchi isn't the most original anime, but, everything it does it does well. It does take a couple episodes to get into, but, I actually liked all the episodes ok and I can't say that for any other anime's episodes (which are usually hit or miss). Sure you know exactly where you are going with the plotline, but, with likable characters and some cute jokes it's fun getting there :)

Any tips on how to write unbiased reviews? I can't for the life of me write a overall review or critique...
No one is unbiased and I never listen to people who claim to be. Just write what you liked and didn't like about the show along with a general plot synopsis.

I keep meaning to catch up with that series, but keep forgetting. I can only juggle so many series at a time, but Dennou Coil is definitely worth watching (at least, judging by the first two episodes).

I downloaded the first episodes of:
  • Blue Drop
  • Gundam 00
  • You're Under Arrest: Full Throttle
  • Shakugan no Shana II
  • Kaiji
I've been eagerly anticipating the second Shakugan no Shana series since the first one ended last March.

I doubt I'll write reviews for all five episodes, but I'll probably write at least one or two.

full throttle seemed interesting enough but blue dorp was uber boring. i wanna try gundam 00 next. tek i await ur reviews of the others though.

edit: can i get a link to clannad ? im not getting any that work through anime-suki. im sad i just noticed mai otome is licensed >_<

full throttle was so boring I started skipping portions of it till I reached the mid point. When nothing had happened yet and I was half asleep I decided it wasn't worth my time.

just finished gundam 00, since ive only seriously watched gundam wing the animation is soooo different, yet at certain spots theres alot of resemblance. i hope they dont over extend this series, a run of 26-30 episodes would be about good. 40 i think would push it. good start though, i enjoyed it

where do you guys get these... whenever i search for them on google, i will eventually get some inappropriate things, or just previews.

Gerbil - I watched Kenichi and enjoyed it immensely. I actually like it better than either DragonBall or Naruto

Tek - here's what I downloaded:
  • Clannad
  • Goshuushosama Ninomiya-kun
  • Da Capo II
  • Shakugan no Shana Second
  • Blue Drop
  • Rental Magica
  • Kaiji
  • Mokke
  • Myself Yourself
of those, I've watched Clannad and Ninomiya-kun. I'm fairly certain I'm not going to continue on with Ninomiya-kun because of the Ecchi and the sexual innuendo.

I search the title of each anime anime-suki lists before I download anything it helps avoid some of the more objectable or badly made ones (I'm sure you guys do too I'm just saying it for guys new to anime-suki). I generally look in the anime-suki forums where there is always a thread for new fansubs, google a wiki for background and/or search the http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ .

Gerbil - I watched Kenichi and enjoyed it immensely. I actually like it better than either DragonBall or Naruto
Ditto. Convincing Kisara in episode 42 to join the Alliance is a riot hehe.

I used to, but anymore I'll just grab everything with a 1 next to it, and decide from there. If there's too much questionable content, I'll just shut off the player and delete the file and go to the next one. *shrugs* Frankly, it's just easier that way than doing research before trying to download...

Mmmm It's true there is so much objectable content out there (and not just in anime) so it's hard to get a comprehensive idea. However just watching one episode or even two or three doesn't give the full picture either. I look up stuff because I prefer not having to resist watching something later on if I should get attached to finding out what happens. I mean better to avoid something objectable or something you don't like up front rather than waste time watching 3-4 episodes only to stop or worse having to resist watching after getting involved.

Really though it's not that hard to look up stuff. A search of http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Main_Page usually (but not always) produces info on a anime's plot or at least the game or manga it's derived from. Just looking on http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/ shows people's ratings or seeing what shows have active or high post count threads on anime-suki (on shows that have been out a little) can help avoid the lemons too. Also I try to avoid downloading unnecessary stuff because I'm trying to go for a 1 download ratio and don't like to leave my computer on long times.

Blue Drop http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_Drop is based on a yuri manga so I kind of lost interest in trying that one out.

Goshūshō-sama Ninomiya-kun http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goshūshō-sama_Ninomiya-kun ecchi as aforementioned.

Da Capo http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D.C._II_~Da_Capo_II~ based on a adult game.

Several animes have been based on an adult game or manga so even if the anime itself is non-adult being derived from a adult source kind of gives you a idea of what to expect. Does anyone else find it creepy the way the Japanese make all age anime of adult games and manga?

Here I've looked up some anime-suki titles wikis (or source manga game) for anyone who wants info.

[OFF TOPIC] Also wouldn't it be nice for once not to have a teenage protagonist. I'm beginning to think you die after high school in Japan :p

Remember that AnimeSuki includes links to ecchi series, but not hentai series.

What's the difference? Imagine ecchi as a rating that ranges from PG-13 to R and hentai as XXX.

AnimeSuki also categorizes each series for which they link torrents. If "ecchi" is included in the categories list, I'd strongly advise skipping it.

Most series include "fan service" of some sort, just as nearly every network television show aimed at adults features attractive actresses. Remember when Stargate SG-1 cast Vanessa Angel as a Tok'ra? Same idea.

Even one of my favorite series, Mai HiME, includes a few fan service moments. What's remarkable about Mai HiME, though, is that the series features over 13 female characters and there's so little fan service. Mai Otome, the "spiritual sequel" to Mai HiME, unfortunately, has entire episodes based primarily on fan service.

If you're new to anime, I suggest checking AnimeSuki or another reliable anime series information source before watching any new anime.

If you're more experienced, I'd still advise checking the categories on any series before downloading. Be especially careful when downloading OVAs as the rules for anime that does not first air on television are less strict.

On a related topic, AnimeSuki only posts link to torrents for series that are not yet licensed. For more information on AnimeSuki's policies on licensed anime, read this.

i watched about half of Kaiji last night before getting so bored I had to turn it off. But that could just be me. :)

is it just me or is the gundam 00 #2 torrent busted?
